[Expressive in every move she made naturally, it was clear when Charlie was distressed; She froze. Her face was white as snow, her eyes were darting about the space around her, and she felt like it was hard to breathe as she was swept up in a wave of confusion. That's where the pain and anger came in and the uncontrollable panic seemed like it could only be stifled by some outside assistance.]

[Let it never be said that Matt wasn't attentive. He noticed when the woman froze - stock still, like a deer in the headlights. It's when her expression clearly shows the same thing that he wonders what's happening - but only briefly, as it seemed no one else had noticed, and no one else was moving to offer to help. Well, he couldn't let her stand there like that all day, could he? He takes a few steps forward, extending a hand slowly]

Hey - miss? Are you alright?

[His voice seemed faint in the moment he spoke only because she was so self-concerned; Eyes wide at his sudden stance before her, she had to snap out of it before anything would register.]

I'm...[She shook her head lightly and felt embarrassed.] I'm sorry.

[Oh, good, okay - she's talking. That's a good sign. A lot of worry escaped in that moment, and he nods.] No, no, don't apologize. Just ... let me help, if I can.

A joke? [Before she started crying. Over the years, she learned different way to break out of her own head when the cage seemed to come down; humor seemed to be one of the best options and it was usually Wendy's best tool in helping.]

A joke. [Well, talk about being put on the spot.] Guy walked into a bar. Said 'ouch'. [He grimaces, shaking his head] Oh, God, sorry, that was awful.

[Oh, but it being awful was amusing in its own and he was a complete stranger who actually cared enough to try. Tears fell from her piercing eyes, but she was quick to wipe them away and actually managed a deep breath in after a delayed hint of a grin seeped through.] It was.

[She had more to say about his effort thankfully though; it just felt overwhelming to speak before actually getting herself back out of sorts and she knew better than to rush it.]

[Oh, God, tears. Matt isn't sure how to deal with tears - well, with a crying five year old, sure, but an adult? Does he ... offer a hug? Does he ... say it's going to be okay? He's not even sure what's going on. At least she kind of liked his awful, terrible joke. That was something.]

I'm glad. You put me under pressure! I'm sure I'll think of a really great one later, and kick myself for not using it now.

[He sighs, running hand through his hair.] Now. Is there anything else I can do?

[Sniffling quickly, she was out and a real smile came to her face as she regained composure.] Let me get you something? [Charlie asked quickly and somewhat meekly. Coffee, a drink, a bite to eat, something for his show of good faith.]

[The smile actually makes him grin wider in response. Obviously, he'd done something right, then, and that was something to be proud of. The offer, though, surprises him, and he's quiet for a moment.] S - sure. Although, I think I should be the one asking you that.

Aww, well, you think too much then. [Charlie said teasingly, wiping her eyes again to make sure she looked cleaned faced.] Then again, I can't exactly say much as I obviously do too. [And that's exactly what got her in trouble, in a panic at times.]

I'm alright though. Hits like a wave, but once it passes...[She explained vaguely with a one-shouldered shrug.]

Would it surprise you to learn that this is not the first time I've been accused of doing that? [He watches, still concerned, but at least she's smiled, and made fun of him. That's a good sign.]

Well, I'm glad for that. You really had me worried for a moment. It's okay now, though?

Still shaking, but my mind's not fried yet. [She admitted with a nod then before starting to move, giving him encouraging grins and looks to follow along. He got her out of a bad situation that could have been much worse; the least she could do was buy him a cup of coffee.]

That can only be a good sign, right? [He's going to stay as close as he can without making it seem as though he's hovering. He wants to be able to offer assistance if he needs to.] So - I'm Matt. Just so you know.

Mmhmm. [Charlie agreed, keeping a slow but steady pace as the coffee shop was only a few minutes away. Nothing like the heel-toe express.] Charlie. [She offered her hand then. Even though, she was much more of a hugger.] Thanks again, Matt.
