[He has only this and past flavor, alas.]

Past! 2 ... eventually if we get into that. littlewired May 27 2012, 00:13:23 UTC
The Sankarans are a secretive family who tend to not to branch out in building relationships with other families. Not without careful study. So Muni has brought his big guns on investigating his eldest son's friend, his 12-year-old-daughter Meghana.

Who carefully looks into the tea pot before looking back up at Mr. Rhodes. "What kind of tea is this?"

And so begins the hideousness? is_to_art May 27 2012, 00:25:26 UTC
Mother had told him to behave. Jagan had not said it as such but the implication was certainly there so he will make every effort to conduct himself in a manner befitting someone of his rank and standing -- which means that the smile will lack much of it's usual edge. "Earl Grey, I believe."

He's got to start adopting little sisters somehow. littlewired May 27 2012, 00:35:47 UTC
Of course Jagan made implications. She was baby sister. She makes a face looking at the pot upon hearing what the blend is. She settles back in her chair, long hair still in pig tails though they're a bit rumpled. "Early Grey? The one with oranges, right?" Oh, man. That stuff is bland. "Uh... that would be acceptable, Lord Five."

This will either be very good or very bad. is_to_art May 27 2012, 00:46:57 UTC
"Ah, but I find acceptable to be decidedly bland, don't you agree, mein mäuschen?" He will get get up, holding out a hand to her. "Particularly when we can - and should - do much better."

WELL. No truth telling will be told. That might be a good thing. A very good thing. littlewired May 27 2012, 00:56:55 UTC
"That's why it's called acceptable, so no one will be offended." Have something of a funny look, Nick. She knows a few languages, mostly computer, but she knows enough of German because of a kid she's running around with now. But then she nods. Mouses are not too bad. They're clever. "Masala chai?" A head tilt.

"If you like." German wasn't entirely uncommon on the Deck, though nowhere near as popular as French seemed to be.

An odd phenomenon, limited almost entirely to the Diamonds from what he'd seen. "Though someone is always bound to be offended. It's simply the way that things go."

Seriously, 12 year old might ask questions that might get a TMI answer. littlewired May 27 2012, 01:20:12 UTC
"... none of the tea houses made it like my grandmother." She hides the sullenness as her hand clasps his. She looks up, still looking remarkably young and short. In two months that will all change...

And French. She's seen some Hearts speak French, but it was the Diamonds who seemed enamored that language. She's heard Italian and German and French among the Spades. Very, very few people use Hindi and right now only the Sankarans use Malayalam. Well, conversational Malayalam. "I guess." She usually is offended or offends someone else, it's normal, "What did you have in mind if not tea?"

...well, if she ASKS. is_to_art May 27 2012, 01:28:12 UTC
"Ice-cream," he says casually. "I know a place, it's not far." In fact she's probably been there a few times herself so there's really no cause for concern - nevermind the fact that Jagan would cheerfully murder him if any harm came to his little sister.

"We should be in and out before anyone notices that we're gone." Only that's ridiculous because they're Spades and everyone knows that Spades notice everything, even when they don't really.

"What is the exact nature of your relationship with my brother. Daddy asked me to ask that." littlewired May 27 2012, 01:52:43 UTC
No matter the Suit, no matter the ethnic background, there are few things that charm anyone more than Ice Cream. "The one with the Sundaes, right?" Mama took her there when Mama was gone for a week or so (cleaning up the mess whatever Fixer left behind).

"David will know." It was a simple unspoken fact. However, Meghana doesn't see why David should care. "But he knows everything so that doesn't matter."

There are a few fours and threes who have no clue the goings and leavings of anyone in the area. Honest.

"Well..." is_to_art May 27 2012, 02:29:00 UTC
"Ah, but it is a King's job to know everything."

Even if David's own reasons were a lot more complicated. One had to give the man credit, though. He had managed to topple one of the oldest and ruthless regimes that Deck had known in quite some time. "But, I very much doubt he'll mind us enjoying a sundae."

"How can he know everything? No one is omnipotent."

She's been trained, raised really, to respect David. But he is ruthless and untouchable despite the manner of his philosophy. He was better than Sean, and Meghana never had to worry about Jagan when it came to the King. Mrs. Novak might be an issue, a fellow nine and clearly established with her blood and ability.

"Maybe he's lactose intolerant so he could mind." A careful smile, "Did you know Dad wanted one of my brothers to be King?"

Not a huge secret. Neither brother is gunning for that role now and... in a few months she's not entirely sure if her father will remember that desire.

11. Take that, Nine's workload. :| piquedbutler May 27 2012, 11:12:35 UTC
Chives loves his Spades. Each and every one. They're not so much his children as his... well. His Spades. It's a very specific relationship a butler has with his Suit. That doesn't, of course, mean that some of his Spades aren't Problem Children.

Problem Children who need to Get Some sleep.

Which is why this late night delivery of brow-arching butler and warm steaming pot doesn't contain the usual blend Chives brings Nicholas--it's full of chamomille. Be prepared to be dragged to bed, Nine.
