6 ...and Eric frowns at the crossed out stuff there! csi_eric_delko May 25 2012, 22:55:58 UTC
The beat down he endured wasn't as simple a recovery as the Emergency Room initially thought. His rib fractures had splintered and required surgery to fix. It had been a few days since the surgery. His first night resulted in Eric sleeping the entire day, still heavily sedated. He did a little better the day after. Today he managed to get up from the bed without any help so they decided to sit out on the beach for the summer night. He was tired of being indoors ( ... )

Eric is special okay it doesn't quite apply to him. <3 tehsmurphette May 25 2012, 23:10:29 UTC
Sami had been understandably worried when she found out about Eric's surgery, and she stayed by his side as much as she could throughout the whole ordeal. She was glad to see him feeling better, and gladder still that he was getting out and getting some fresh air.

The blankets and pillows seemed stable enough for him to lay against without upsetting his injuries, and of course she was happy to allow herself to be used as a pillow. She settled beside him, a hand on his thigh. Talk of medication made her a bit twitchy, teased her with old habits, but she pushed those thoughts out of her mind. "I'm glad, Baby. You should still take it easy, though. Don't wanna have to go back and have 'em fix you up again." Sam gave an easy grin and added, "Not that I don't love being your personal nurse."

He's happy to hear it! <3 csi_eric_delko May 26 2012, 16:02:42 UTC
"What, I need surgery to get that kind of attention?" He teased and accidentally let out a small laugh which made him wince. Eric was grateful for Sam's strength. He relied on it as he had to trust her with his weight that he couldn't fully carry without pain. It only took a little more shifting before he settled. The sea air and his love was better therapy than any doctor could give. It was the best medicine in the world for him. "Samantha..."

His eyes had drifted out to the water for longer than a moment. He hadn't realized. The water always did mesmerize him. "...you ever think about getting married. That kind of life?" he asked softly, fearful of her answer. It wasn't the pain medication talking. It had been on his mind for some time. Sam was so good at being there and she seemed to genuinely enjoyed it. Eric kept thinking about making her an honest woman out of her.

"No, you know I take care of you regardless," she said, smiling fondly over at him. She was comfortable in the silence between them, finding the sounds of the ocean and the breeze comforting. Nature in general was a comfort to her, though usually it was a trip into the woods or up into the mountains that did the trick. The more time she spent in Miami, the more her appreciation for the sea was growing ( ... )

"Love you, Babe." The words came out effortlessly and immediately at her kiss to his shoulder. Eric didn't know anything about mountains or woods, but if they made Sami happy, then he would give them a try. She made him very happy. He found a peace that he hadn't known existed. There was no worry of her changing her mind and tiring of him. He didn't have any fear of an ulterior motive. They seemed to simply collide and fit together ( ... )

"Love you, too," her voice was quiet, eyes fixed on him. It felt so good to hear him say that, she actually felt butterflies. The fear she'd felt, fear of sharing herself with someone else, it was fading. There were still things she didn't feel up to discussing, but she had given more of herself to Eric than she had to anyone in years. Rather than leave her feeling exposed and vulnerable, she actually felt a bit stronger.

Sami smiled at his words, shaking her head. "Aw, no, don't get me something expensive. I'm afraid I'd lose it," she chuckled, kissing his shoulder again. She'd been suspicious about whatever they'd spoke of in Spanish, though she figured it couldn't have been too bad if they kept letting her come around. It made sense with Eric's explanation.

"My dad mentioned something about it, when I called him the other day. He knows how I am, and how me staying here's a big deal. Asked when he was gonna be giving me away..." Sam had been reluctant to admit it until just then, not knowing how he'd take it.

"Definitely nothing expensive then." He tried stifling a chuckle and failed--a wince immediately appearing on his features again. It wasn't as if Eric could afford more than a carat but Sami would end up with just that. He knew full well she wouldn't lose it.

His smile quickly returned regardless of the lingering pain when she told him about the conversation with her dad. "I should get up there and have a conversation man to man, huh?" She was closing in on half a year away from home. It was time to visit.

Yet it wasn't something he would be able to easily pull off any time soon given his condition and all the time Eric had lost from work. Or maybe he could. Particularly with his condition.

The doctor hadn't dictated where Eric needed to recover. A fiendish smile started tugging his lips.

She frowned, not liking to see him in pain. Her mind drifted to Eric proposing to her, and she could hardly believe they'd gotten to this point so quickly. Six months, and they were talking about marriage? But then, like her dad had always told her, growing up, when it was right, she'd know. Right now, it was pretty damn right.

There were still more things she needed to talk about, things she felt he needed to know about her past before things went any further. Just... not now. This moment was too nice, too perfect to bust up with her angst.

"I would never object to a visit home," Sami said with a grin. "And if we go soon you won't have to worry about the cold." The last was a bit teasing, knowing he didn't like it. But really, it was easy to enjoy the area in nice weather, and it just might make him want to come back in the winter. She did promise to keep him warm, after all.

Her eyes caught that smile, and she tilted her head. "What's that look, baby?"

"Nothing. I just swear I saw Expedia advertise last minute trips to Canada for cheap. And I've got at least a week before he checks me again. He didn't say where I need to recover at. How about a little trip now?" he asked and carefully moved to look up at Sam.

Her head tilted, eyes widening. "You want to go now? Oh, Eric..." Sam grinned excitedly, gingerly leaning in to kiss him. "Baby-- really? I'd love to go now."

"Now," he confirmed with a nod of his head before kissing Sam. Carefully, Eric reached and cupped her cheek. He had to be careful not to get too carried away. Her reaction was all he needed to know it was the right decision. She had given him so much, it was time he gave back.

"Mmm...well as soon as Expedia gives us tickets. Better get inside and start looking that up. We've got some packing to do," he concluded after a break for air. Eric ran his thumb over her cheek and gazed into her eyes with every ounce of sincerity that he felt.

It was really difficult not to lean in and pounce him, but she knew she had to be careful so that she didn't accidentally injure him further. "I make a list of what we need while you fire up the computer?" she offered helpfully. Sam knew Eric was having trouble getting around, and as long as he told her what he wanted packed, it wouldn't be too difficult to get them both ready to go.

Her eyes met his with every bit of warmth returned, and she subtly leaned into his touch. They hadn't been as intimate with his injury, and while she wasn't going to complain, because that'd be mean and unfair, she did get a little frustrated at times. But Eric was as wonderful to her as could be, and honestly, it was worth waiting for him to get better so they could be all over once more. "Want me to help you up?"

"Sounds like a plan," he answered her suggestion on making a list. "You're going to have to pack for me too, Mami." Sam had taken care of him for a while. Eric trusted she knew what he would need. "I'll have to email work too on top of getting the tickets." He nodded at her offer to help him rise. Once up, he took a second to catch his breath and made a slow return to his condo while Sam collected the blankets and pillows.

It was easier to descend the stairs from the back balcony than climb up them. Or maybe his pills were wearing off. He wanted to look strong for Sam but was failing miserably. He clung to the doctor's promise of a hundred percent recovery in a short week and blamed his weakness on poor nutrition from the hospital food. Eric had only one more day of the strong antibiotic to take. He would be fine for this trip. He was convinced.

"I got you covered, Baby," she assured him, helping him up and then starting to pack up the blankets and pillows. Once folded, they were easy enough to carry, and she kept an eye on Eric as he made his way up the stairs. She wasn't sure he was well enough for the trip, but she didn't want to start a row between them, because she knew he didn't want her to think him weak ( ... )

Eric snickered and immediately tucked his arm in at his side, wincing from the pain that laughing inflicted. It was worth it for him. His girlfriend was something else. "You're crazy. There's only one thing more beautiful than the sunset and that's you. What, you saw your reflection walking up?" he teased in return once he caught his breath. Should Sam ever tell him about an addiction, he would be dumbfounded. He definitely held no suspicion in the time they had been together.

He slowly made his way to the desk his laptop sat on and carefully took a seat. The desk was just ahead of the door so he couldn't easily keep eyes on Sam but Eric looked for her once he started up the laptop. He could swear she was radiating with happiness. She hadn't looked that happy since he had asked her to stay. He smiled sadly, feeling guilty that taking a trip hadn't come to mind sooner.
