It was the use of her full name that really caught her attention, and for a moment she froze, expecting the worst. 'Samantha' was usually something she only heard when someone was upset with her. Eric's question was the last thing she expected, and she leaned away to look at him, thinking that maybe it was the painkillers, but his expression told her otherwise. Sami could tell he was serious about this.
Considering her words carefully, she took a deep breath before replying. "I have, actually. More so recently than I have in a while, to be honest. I'm not in a huge hurry to get there, but it'd be nice, someday." She tried to keep a realistic view about it, or so she thought. In the past she'd dreamed of the fairy tale wedding, but that was before she'd been with so many jerks, before she'd actually managed to get involved with a nice guy like Eric.
"Right now, I'm really happy with the way things are. Just in case you ever wonder," Sam added softly, pressing a light kiss to his shoulder.

He gave her hand that rested on him and had steadied him a squeeze. "I'm happy too. But it's good to know you'd be open to settling down some day. ...Hate to get the courage to sell a kidney for a decent ring and find out that's not your cup of tea," he teased but stifled any urge to laugh. His eyes panned out from as far right to as far left as his eyes could see over the water without having to move his head.
"Don't be surprised if my family starts asking those questions. They've been asking me with everything that's happened. Now you know what it is they suddenly break out in Spanish to talk about." There was a light hearted quality to his words while he looked out at the growing tide. Yet he held no smile or subdued any laugh which meant his words were true. His family recognized they held more than the conventional relationship and were happy with Sam.

Sami smiled at his words, shaking her head. "Aw, no, don't get me something expensive. I'm afraid I'd lose it," she chuckled, kissing his shoulder again. She'd been suspicious about whatever they'd spoke of in Spanish, though she figured it couldn't have been too bad if they kept letting her come around. It made sense with Eric's explanation.
"My dad mentioned something about it, when I called him the other day. He knows how I am, and how me staying here's a big deal. Asked when he was gonna be giving me away..." Sam had been reluctant to admit it until just then, not knowing how he'd take it.

His smile quickly returned regardless of the lingering pain when she told him about the conversation with her dad. "I should get up there and have a conversation man to man, huh?" She was closing in on half a year away from home. It was time to visit.
Yet it wasn't something he would be able to easily pull off any time soon given his condition and all the time Eric had lost from work. Or maybe he could. Particularly with his condition.
The doctor hadn't dictated where Eric needed to recover. A fiendish smile started tugging his lips.

There were still more things she needed to talk about, things she felt he needed to know about her past before things went any further. Just... not now. This moment was too nice, too perfect to bust up with her angst.
"I would never object to a visit home," Sami said with a grin. "And if we go soon you won't have to worry about the cold." The last was a bit teasing, knowing he didn't like it. But really, it was easy to enjoy the area in nice weather, and it just might make him want to come back in the winter. She did promise to keep him warm, after all.
Her eyes caught that smile, and she tilted her head. "What's that look, baby?"

"Mmm...well as soon as Expedia gives us tickets. Better get inside and start looking that up. We've got some packing to do," he concluded after a break for air. Eric ran his thumb over her cheek and gazed into her eyes with every ounce of sincerity that he felt.

Her eyes met his with every bit of warmth returned, and she subtly leaned into his touch. They hadn't been as intimate with his injury, and while she wasn't going to complain, because that'd be mean and unfair, she did get a little frustrated at times. But Eric was as wonderful to her as could be, and honestly, it was worth waiting for him to get better so they could be all over once more. "Want me to help you up?"

It was easier to descend the stairs from the back balcony than climb up them. Or maybe his pills were wearing off. He wanted to look strong for Sam but was failing miserably. He clung to the doctor's promise of a hundred percent recovery in a short week and blamed his weakness on poor nutrition from the hospital food. Eric had only one more day of the strong antibiotic to take. He would be fine for this trip. He was convinced.

Truthfully, she'd been through enough injuries to know that sometimes you just weren't a hundred percent. It was a bitch to deal with, but she got by. Sam felt she was getting by better lately. There was just a small part of her that missed the pills, and it was really only because they were around, now. It was entirely too tempting to nip a couple, but she knew two things to be true: a couple wouldn't be enough, and Eric would notice. That was enough to keep her clean. She didn't want him to find out about her old habit that way.
Eventually she'd tell him. Maybe once the pills were out of the house. He'd know she could be trusted with the stuff, since he'd know she didn't try to take any. Just a few more days and he'd be done with the prescription, that was it. But god, she was craving it now, and she had to focus on other things. Like Eric's ass, presented so nicely in front of her as they climbed the stairs and went in the house. "Sure like the view back here," she teased, laughing quietly. "Helluva lot better than the sunset."

He slowly made his way to the desk his laptop sat on and carefully took a seat. The desk was just ahead of the door so he couldn't easily keep eyes on Sam but Eric looked for her once he started up the laptop. He could swear she was radiating with happiness. She hadn't looked that happy since he had asked her to stay. He smiled sadly, feeling guilty that taking a trip hadn't come to mind sooner.

"No way, I was watching you walk in. How's the saying go, 'hate to see you go, but love to watch you leave?' Yeah, something like that," Sami gave an uncharacteristic giggle, something that was becoming more a part of her nature, the longer she spent with Eric. She could be quite silly and girly when she was happy. Really happy, like she was now. Resting her chin in her hand, she watched him adoringly, forgetting her list-making duties. "Could stare at you all day," she murmured.
