Lately it’s been too hot to sit down and type anything out for this journal, and in truth it’s a little too hot to be doing it now, but none the less I felt I had at least a few things that I wanted to prattle on about.
First off, I went and saw Clerks II about a week or so ago, and to avoid annoying or upsetting any Kevin Smith fans, and to avoid proving all those people right who claim that I am too judgmental of the work of others (especially considering that I have failed to produce any substantial work of my own) I will say as simply as I can, and without any explanation whatsoever, that this was probably Kevin’s worst film to date, and that I not only want my money back that I wasted on the film, but I also want (by some metaphysical miracle) to get back the one hour and thirty-seven minutes of my life that was wasted on watching this completely superfluous piece of motion picture dribble.
On a less judgmental note…
I’m looking forward to receiving the new Kevin Hearn album in the mail, as well as some cool statuettes based on his artwork, and also to an upcoming release of not only a new Barenaked Ladies album, but the release of a new Bob Dylan album which is expected to be out just a day before my birthday!
Also, I’m currently reading Melville’s Moby Dick, and it’s better than I would have ever guessed it could be! Also, I just finished another historical biography on the ever interesting Saint Paul, and more than ever I’m obsessed and confounded by his miraculous conversion on the Damascus road, and I’m constantly in wonder of what was meant by the “thorn” that was in Paul’s flesh. Sexual inequity, epilepsy, a wound?
There is no way of knowing the mystery of the thorn, but it’s fascinating to speculate upon it.
What else, what else? Nothing worth noting I guess. I’ve been working fulltime for the summer (and possibly for the winter to pay off credit debts) and I’ve been watching at least two episodes of the X-Files a day.
More or less, monotony has been the ruler of my days this summer. I ride my bicycle at night with Nyssa and my Mom (though not for the past couple of days), and we take long hikes on the weekends.
If there is anything else that I’ve been doing…it’s probably not worth writing about.
PS: I have high hopes for Scoop, and I didn't find the trailer to be as bad as many people seem to think it was.
