Morinmont
by Meltintalle
NaNoWriMo 2014
The builders promised that Morinmont would stand for a thousand years or more. Their foresight did not encompass technological advances. Hugh Morin and his sister Edith rally to the challenge of rebuilding in a world that isn't sure it needs them.
OR
Some sort of fantasy about a brother and sister who find themselves on a quest for justice with the usual sort of rag-tag companions: a mercenary, a thief, a clown, a cute kid and a dog. It may also include making friends with an antagonist and a lawyer.
Characters:
Major
- Hugh Morin (our hero): a sober and methodical lad
- Edith Morin (Hugh's sister): equally responsible
- John Lackland (the mercenary): historical name apropriation ahoy
- Woodbine Quarryman (Hugh's best friend and John's apprentice): better known as "Biney"
- Tansy Quarryman (Biney's little sister): the cute kid
- Vera Key (Edith's maid): how does she know John, anyway???
- Prowler: the dog
Minor
- Prince Falco: seems he likes Edith...
- Mellis Cedarline: seems she likes John
- Melliot Cedarline (Mellis' brother): the lawyer
- Princess Verity of Ce'lestedome: has disappeared under unfortunate circumstances
- John's worst enemy (works for Prince Falco): isn't a very nice guy
- Lord Morin (Hugh and Edith's father): might even survive the story
Yes, I believe this makes three times I have used the name Hugh for the protagonist. I have no excuse nor desire to change. No, this is not a rewrite of anything from February. Yes, I have a plan. (Well, half a one, anyway. And a rough map. That's got to count for something.)
