Annotating

When you annotate a story, you pick up words with
a feather light touch. You hold each string of words up
to the light and observe at every angle before gently
you set it down. Admire and move on. At the end you,
have begun to understand, but somehow you have
missed the life behind the colourful strings of words.

Reading
When you read a story, you grab the text by a handful.
In its lumpy form, in the cradle of your hand you feel
the rough texture of the words and their meanings but
it is only by touch that you sense them.  Almost too soon
do the words start to crumble and slip through your fingers.
It is worth it though, just to feel the cool touch of the life
that was so bright in your hand.
