I've been working a lot lately, so I'm a wee bit behind on my review posting hehe. Truth be told I wasn't exactly thrilled with the movie counterpart, so I didn't know what to expect from the tv show Constantine. The tv show has a familiar Supernatural vibe to it due to the demons, angels, and folklore. However, it is quite different to SPN in its own mythology that it can stand on its own as a series. Are there similarities? Definitely, however; the differences are important. For instance, John is more experienced in the supernatural world in comparison to Sam and Dean when we first met them in the "Pilot" in Supernatural season one. The similarities don't diminish either show. In other words, I'll have my cake and eat it too.
The casting of Matt Ryan as John Constantine was perfect!! Matt Ryan definitely brings a refreshing air to this character, and he looks good doing it *drools*. I loved how the show pretty much set-up the series by having the forces of Hell rising up and influencing people that are already up to no good. Another thing I loved is that the show starts out during John's somewhat younger days in regards to what happened to Astra. I love that show acknowledged this pivotal moment in John's backstory, and it even started out in the psychiatric hospital. I was really happy to see elements of the comic book within the show. Granted, they were altered a bit, but nothing too much that left me jarring.
I loved the look and feel of the show. The music was great along with the special effects. I don't know if the show will last its freshman year in comparison to this season's Gotham or The Flash, but I hope it does. It fits perfectly on Friday nights with Grimm. *fingers crossed*
