Review of Smallville episode "Conspiracy"

The episode was okay. I really liked the interaction between Clark and Zod and Faora (her monologue was a great follow up to her "Bloodline" episode). Looking at the promo sounded like Clark actually believed Zod was telling the truth, and I would imagine one of the reasons why Clark actually believed Zod is because of what Faora told him and perhaps he holds some guilt of what happened in this episode to the Kandorians. I knew Zod was lying on the rooftop because he isn't one to show weakness to anyone. Even though it's going to blow up in his face (again) what I like is that Clark is still trying to save Zod. Not just because of what Jor-El and Faora told him, but that's part of what makes Superman Superman.

Watchful Oliver - I don't see Oliver betraying Clark again this year. At least I would hate for the writers to repeat it because that would mean all of Oliver's progression the first half of the season means nothing. Considering the time and devotion to Oliver's redemption arc I just don't see them doing it over again. Since Oliver is withhelding the stash's location from Chloe and a bit of how Justin's portrayed the ending scene it felt like Oliver could be keeping an eye on Chloe. Oliver obiviously doesn't trust Chloe anymore considering he's hiding her weapon's stash and the "rules" line he told her. I see Oliver's position, at the moment, between two friends and he's trying his best to keep his cool. If Oliver confronted Chloe more, then I can see her being far more determined to find those weapons and then go against Oliver. The moment Chloe does that then you can sure bet everyone will be in the dark.

Shady Chloe - There is nothing wrong to have a Plan B, but what Chloe is doing is showing more unnecessary distrust in Clark's way. It's like a role reversal from "Pandora". Instead of Clark keeping his distance it is Chloe. At least Oliver is a wild card variable, so nothing is set yet. Clark wasn't the one that fouled up "Doomsday", and the fact that Chloe spoke of it in a way that blamed Clark was mind-boggling considering the cataylst was JLA and primarly Chloe. So for Chloe to even say that really shows that she hasn't reflected on her past mistakes. Not in the same manner Clark and Oliver have. I'm really giving Oliver a benefit of the doubt right now because Chloe obiviously doesn't trust Oliver either or she would have asked for the money than rather "borrow" it from him. Speaking of Chlollie I must say they had the worst build-up on the show ever. The near kiss moment felt so out of place to me. When I was watching it my sister walked in, and she has seen all the episodes this year but stays off the internet, was so confused at that scene. She seriously thought she missed an episode. Sorry, I mean no offense to posters who like Chlollie and liking ships is completely subjective, but I just don't see the couple in this pair. The way Allison described them in one interview was definitely in this episode. There was nothing romantic about them nor even that lustful considering the "booty call" line and the lies of distrust. Whenever Allison/Chloe exits the show hopefully the writers accomplished some type of redemption for her character.

The Future is Near - Interesting enough the Kryptonite knife in Chloe's stash is the exact knife Zod stabbed Clark with in "Pandora". The dark future in "Pandora" hasn't really changed, something I thought in last week's episode (I thought the destruction of the Solar Towers was the betrayal Alia spoke about to Clark in "Savior"), because the events could still take place if they get more blood from Clark. The only difference is no red sun and no Alia. Heck, if Faora thinks Chloe is a threat to Zod, then I can see Faora killing Chloe instead of Alia. So nothing really has changed too much. The dark future in "Pandora" can still take place, so it will be interesting to see Clark and Co. stop it. Perhaps they will form an alliance with Checkmate in the end to stop the Kandorian threat.

Clois & Metallo Returns - It was nice to see a following to Metallo and foreshadowing his return later in the season. Clois "mystery" was cute but I thought was a unnecessary angst. Though Clark can't tell Lois yet about his Kryptonian background, but I'm not sure I understand Lois' point of view. Is she keeping her "mystery" because of the story, she is keeping her secret because Clark has one, or because she doesn't know what Clark will feel about it. I think I need to rewatch that scene again lol. One silver lining is they are being upfront with each other about keeping their secret to each other. They aren't doing things behind each other's back like Chlollie. So there is some difference to how Clois agreed on the "mystery" aspect. Sure their are ways the writers could have written Clois differently, but you know tv writers they have to prolong the inevitable until May sweeps lol.

Overall, the episode was an okay set-up for the last quarter of the season. The April episodes promo was awesome
. Callum's Zod looks great in the Fortress of Solitude. The lighting and the blue tint
. Nice to see The Blur and Amanda Waller interact, but man she is pissed. Major Zod is dressed in the same fashion as Lex's General Zod in the episodes "Vessel" and "Zod" and Zod's personality. Great shout-out to the previous episodes. Tess is sleeping with Zod. Finally, the sexual tension goes somewhere
, but too bad Zod has her at a choke hold at Kents' Loft.
