Friday Five...

So it's Friday (oh my goodness, am I glad it's Friday!!) and it's been a while since I updated.

1)  I can't remember if I mentioned here that Max had a neurologist appointment a couple weeks ago. He's doing fine, and the doctor said that since it's been over two years since his last seizure (and his medication dose has stayed the same since we moved here even though he's grown), we may be able to take him off medication! Yay!  In order to do that, they have to do a 24 hour EEG though, which will sort of suck. He's going in Monday morning to have electrodes put on, and he'll wear a special backpack monitor unit for 24 hours (staying home from school with electrodes all over his head), then have them removed Tuesday morning. BUT, if there's no abnormal brain activity, he can stop taking meds! So we're hopeful.
2) I finally got around to painting the bathroom last weekend. It had been a sunny yellow which was relatively innocuous, but the floor was blue and white, so it all just didn't match.  So,  I painted the bathroom white, with two accent walls in medium blue (I wanted to use cobalt blue, my favorite color, but it wouldn't have matched the floor pattern).  It looks SO much better, and now that it's payday, I've ordered a new shower curtain to replace the grody rust stained one that came with the house.  I am annoyed, because I went to Walmart today to pick up a new bathmat and I even brought the paintstick with me to match the colors, but in the lighting of the bathroom, it now doesn't match. Grr.  Still, the room still looks a zillion times better.
3) I got a bit of a start on the boys' Halloween costume today-- they're both going to be robots.  I'm going to be basing their costume off this one that I found online, and I've ordered the sunshades from eBay, but they haven't arrived yet.  However, I am making little rocket jet packs out of soda bottles and we have an abundance of those, so I have started constructing that part-- wrapping them in shiny silver duct tape. (Did you know they make one that's really shiny silver? Awesome!)
4) I've been reading the Newbery award winning "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman.  I really need to finish it this weekend so I can get it back to the library, so I hope I can find time to read.  I believe the target audience is grade school-- maybe 4th-6th grade (since I got it from the elementary school library), but it's nearly 300 pages and certainly holding my interest. The problem is, I generally read before bed, and it's a little creepy for that.
5) I've started planning for Max's birthday party. We're lucky this year-- his birthday is Nov. 26th, and up to now, that has always been either on Thanksgiving or the day or two afterwards. This year, it's actually the Monday before Thanksgiving, so we can have a birthday party for him on Sunday afternoon the day before and actually have a chance to invite his classmates.  He has been talking about his birthday party for ages now, and is determined to have a "Green Outer Space Birthday" (tm).  I'm going to make a pseudo-Saturn cake using a metal bowl as a cake pan and fruit-by-the-foot for Saturn's rings (but frosting it in green, his favorite color). If you haven't guessed, he's currently fascinated with space, the planet Saturn in particular. I have bought two gifts for him already (which will be either from us or from his grandparents, who generally contribute money rather than buying gifts).  One is a cool do-it-yourself mobile of the solar system with paints so you can paint the planets yourself Some of the paint glows in the dark! I can't wait to put it together with him!! He LOVES painting so he's going to freak about this!!  The other gift is a set of sheets with aliens and rockets and planets on it-- all on a green background. Again, he's going to love it. I'm thinking of picking up either a new green comforter or just a green duvet cover. Maybe something thick and flannel, since it's going to be a cold winter!

And I guess that's enough rambling for now.  Jeff's back from work-- evidently a slow night at Domino's which is good in that he's home early, but bad for tips. Please keep praying he gets a real job soon. This is so far from ideal. :(
