so according to my live journal main page, it's been about 5 weeks since my last post. i meant to write a pile of times while i was working on saturday..but i just never got around to it. yea i know, i know...excuses excuses. well one very good reason for not updating is that i got laser eye surgery last month. i still can't believe that i can see on my own without glasses or anything. according to the eye chart at the doctors office, my right eye is about 20/20 vision and my left eye seems to be 20/16. i am still reaching for glasses when the alarm goes off. i wonder how long it will take my body to stop doing that habit that i have done for so many years.
so i figured i would go into some detail on my surgery. i arrived in ottawa on saturday june 9. it was nice to spend some time with crystal, eric and the ever so cute zoe. she is so big now! and too adorable for words. i miss her a lot. so my ma and pa got to ottawa on sunday. i think we went out for dinner...i know we did on the 11th to red lobster for my sisters birthday. it was soooo good. mmm mmm seaside shrimp trio..my favourite. i went for my consultation on tuesday afternoon and then right after that got my 4th tattoo. it's a clown fish with sea anemone around it. i love it. the 13th was surgery day. it was booked for 8am...but there were a few more tests that had to be done that didn't get done the day before. we sat down in an office and talked about payment and such. i found out that i had to get PRK zyoptics because my eyes were pretty bad. i wasn't happy about it, but i got to spend a few extra days in ottawa (i didn't leave until the next wednesday). i got my little fanny pack with everything i would need to recover and then put on the blue hair cover hat and sat an waited.
once i got into the operating room i had my eyes looked at by the doctor, then i lay down on the table. they had given me a drug before hand that was supposed to help relax me...it did...but i never really was nervous to begin with. they did the right eye first. taping the left eye closed and using a contraption to keep my eye wide open. my instructions were to look at the red light at all times. so i did. first they put some freezing drops in. then they used what reminded me of a small round electric toothbrush type machine to "scuff" up my eye tissue. then came the lasering. all i could smell was burning flesh...and i just kept trying my hardest to stare at the red light...which turned into green, orange, yello and red lights once the lasering started. it was pretty cool. after the lasering...a sponge was held on my eye for a bit and then it was rinsed with what felt like freezing cold water...i'd have to say that that was the most uncomfortable part of the whole surgery. then the repeated the same procedure on my other eye. they put a contact lens on my eye so that it would heal. it wasn't to be taken out for 3-5 days. well i got it out 6 days later and that felt really weird. The person used tweezers to take it off. anyway, back to the story...
i got my special sunglasses on and kept my eyes closed the whole way home...i pretty much slept and was drugged up for the next 2 days. getting up only to eat and go to the bathroom. i got to listen to the tv all day instead of watch it. it certainly was an experience, but i would do it all over again because it is totally worth it for what i have gained. i am so happy with my results and i could never imagine this feeling i get every morning when i wake up and can see everything around me. my eyes are still a little light sensitive which was kind of a problem at first, but it gets better day by day.
other than that whole ordeal, i've been to the eye doctor here in t-bay once for a follow-up, had my yearly physical with the doc yesterday, worked a a lot, went to a passion party (yes, another one!)and dog sat for my aunt and uncle. that's about it, and that's all i have to say for now. enjoy!
