Melon Field 2 [Yuri]

The forest north of the village stretches to the mountain ridge bordering the sea. But before the narrow mountain pass to the sea, before the end of the forest can quite be seen, there is a melon field. The land is a little hilly here, and the forest around it is uneven, but the field itself is perfectly leveled and square. Although interest in the ( Read more... )

This was certainly a nice field. Olette walked between the aisles, sizing each one carefully (apparently, she hadn't heard the rumors about the watermelons being unbreakable). Stopping at a shining one, she kneeled beside it and held it up carefully.

"Hmmm," She murmured. "No bumps or bruises. It'd be perfect to make melon bread with."

"Melon bread?" Danny couldn't help but wonder what the heck melon bread was supposed to taste like.

He stood around rainbow melon #2 alongside Olette, curiously staring at the color. "I don't think they're supposed to look like that." He pointed down to the melon before leaning down to pick it up and feel if it was really a melon or something else...he wouldn't have been surprised if they were plastic.

"Uh-huh," She replied, now eying a regular, green watermelon. "It's bread that tastes like watermelon. It's amazingly yummy. I thought that since everyone's bringing watermelons into the apartment, we could make some."

Watching him pick it up, she grinned. "I don't think so either, but you get used to this place after a while. Every town has its oddities... and Memento's weird food, apparently, is a rainbow-colored watermelon."

"I've heard of banana bread, and pumpkin bread, but never watermelon bread." He grinned to Olette with a slight laugh. "And I think Memento Eden has enough weird stuff without the funny fruit."

He took a good look at the melon before lifting one hand. "Let's see if we can open it!" He'd never tried only making one part of his body intangible, but it was worth a shot. He plunged an intangible arm throw the skin of the melon.

The melon if it could be felt inside indeed did just feel like any ordinary melon (most likely squishy and juicy) but its rind stayed intact around the intangible arm. But he had accomplished one thing, he'd touched the insides which was more than most could say still...

"Eaugh!" He really should've seen it coming, feeling a bunch of squishy fruit guts, but somehow, he hadn't really thought about it. He pulled his hand out of the melon, turning it tangible only to have sticky melon juice dripping off it.

"Well, I don't think you'd want this in your melon bread," he joked, gesturing to his hand.

Hmph, how insulting. Melon guts are multipurpose.

Wait, he could actually somewhat control his powers now? Olette supposed he could if he was able to put his entire arm in there like that.

She couldn't help laughing once she saw the juice. "Yeah, probably," She admitted. "I guess special melons won't make it taste better."

Olette looked over at the other watermelons nearby and smiled. "Mm... this kinda reminds me of summer back home. We used to go to the beach, and my friend Hayner would whack a watermelon into oblivion blindfolded. Well, that was once he found the watermelon."

He tried wiping his sticky hand on the melon, setting it on the ground where he had found it. "I dunno about you, but I think these are the hardest to crack open." He eyed the green ones carefully. "Those look pretty normal, though. Maybe we can use those for melon bread?"

"He hit it blindfolded? Did he ever break the watermelon, or did he just hit around it?" he joked. Danny knew he certainly wouldn't be able to break a watermelon blindfolded. Or at least, that's what he thought.

"Sure," She replied, glancing over at the green ones as well. "I'm sure they'd work just fine. Of course, I hope they don't have bumps or bruises. You never know who comes in here."

Walking over to the green ones, she kneeled beside the first one and held it up. "It feels normal," She said, grinning. "I think it'd be perfect for bread."

"He did both, really," Olette confessed. "But Hayner was pretty strong when he decided that he wanted to be. We didn't get many watermelons on the beach since they were overpriced. We normally stuck with pretzels or ramen."

"You wanna take it back and make melon bread with it then?" he said, feeling the melon too. It certainly felt like a normal melon, and it definitely looked like one!

"We didn't really have a beach in Amity Park. But I don't think the watermelons were overpriced." Not that he could remember, anyway.
"But pretzels are always good too!"

"Definitely," She said. "Ed promised me that he'd save some watermelons from the grocery store, but I think these would be easier to use. If only 'cause we got them from here."

Standing up, she looked over towards the exit. "Twilight Town didn't have a beach, either, but we could go to one by train. Even though the fare's discounted since we're students, it was still a lot. We'd have to get part time jobs to pay for it all."

She giggled. "Yeah, pretzels are great. I never did figure out to make them, though."

"So taking it back it is!" he declared as he shifted the melon in his arms comfortably enough that he felt he could walk back the whole way to the apartments with it.

"Heh, Amity Park wasn't really all that close to anything. The closest thing we had was a lake, and you had to drive a bit to get there. It was sorta like a city, so we usually just walked most of the time." He couldn't remember any of his friends, though, so 'we' was really just referring to 'him.'

"Figure out how to make the big kind, or the tiny kind you find in the packages?" Danny was fond of both, and he could understand how it would be hard to make them.
