Melon Field 3 [Ammie]

Jul 08, 2008 23:47

On the far side of the island, quite a distance west from the town, there is a melon field. It lies between the edge of the forest and Memento Eden's largest lake, basking in the open sun. On occasion, water fowl waddle nearby, though the influx of visitors to the field seems to have scared them off. The soil nearby goes from hearty to moist and ( Read more... )

"Wow wow wow wow WOW!!" Cooro exclaimed, flying to the watermelon patch. With eyes the size of plates, he stared longingly at the watermelons, drooling a little. They looked so... big. So big and yummy. And ripe, too. Perfect for munching on.

Landing on the soft dirt in the middle of the patch, he gazed around the field hungrily. Which to eat first...? The blue, red, and rainbow melons seemed strange, but not bad. He found himself wondering what they tasted like. Did they have special flavors? If so, which one tasted the best? He slowly walked around, and found himself most drawn to the rainbow ones. While the others were strange colors, these ones were not only strange colors, but shiny and strangely colored. Plopping down next to rainbow melon 3, he picked it up and put it on his lap, reaching behind to grab his hand axe. Grasping empty air, the young +Anima remembered suddenly that he hadn't carried his hatchet around with him for quite some time, as one did not really need a hatchet in the daily life of Memento Eden. "Aww, what' ( ... )

The shining melon didn't show the slightest sign of breaking, not a dent or crack to be found, but seemed slightly expectant somehow.

Cooro went up to the melon and sat by it again, a fairly sharp rock in hand. Turning the melon so that the bottom-most point of it was facing him, he began stabbing at it with his rock.

The first few blows, and it just seemed like nothing was happening. A few blows later, and if anything, the rock was starting to look worn.

Lenalee walked to the melon field by the lake after work. Somehow, this seemed like 'safe' investigating, and for a while at least, that's what she was restricted to.

She knelt by rainbow melon 4, tapping the outside lightly with a finger. This was not the average watermelon.

The tapping sound certainly sounded like that of a ripe fruit, for all it was worth. The melon gave no reaction, but then, it would be more unusual if it did.

She just watched that melon for a bit. It was shimmering, which added to the strangeness of its colors. Then again, this place seemed to have a thing about oddly colored objects.

"Maybe this is paying us back for that cafeteria incident...though after that, I don't want to eat any strange food." Still, she felt the urge to break the melon open...and after a second or two, brought up one leg, spun around and brought the heel of her boot down right on the top of the melon.

A louder thunk came from the melon this time, but despite the force of the impact, the melon showed no signs of wear at all, save for some dust off of Lenalee's boot.

Sol stared at Red Melon 1 for a good minute. Supposedly unbreakable fruits? Not the most interesting thing the island could have spawned, but he decided it would entertain him for at least a few minutes. If he broke one and proved the people wrong in the process, all the better.

Deciding to start with the most obvious and simplest method, Sol brought his two-handed sword--in one hand, of course--crashing down onto the watermelon.

The red melon wobbled slightly from the force of the impact, not dented in the least. If there was any change at all, it seemed vaguely amused. But melons aren't snarky bastards, right? Right?

Sol felt as though the melon was being a snarky bastard. Didn't make much sense, but he generally considered anything that did not cooperate with him a snarky bastard, so...he simply assumed it was a snarky bastard and, winding up, sent an earth-shattering punch into the melon's snarky melon-face.

It was an earth-shattering punch, and earth it did shatter as the melon flew a good few yards before crashing into a tree (and breaking the poor young tree) and thumping back to the ground. Although there was now a collapsed tree and a good few dents in the hearty island soil, the melon was completely intact. Even undented.

Blue Melon 2 rolled on the ground slightly from the force, but it showed no signs of denting or piercing. In fact, it looked like it didn't take a tonfa blow at all.

The blue melon didn't seem to appreciate Hibari's abuse at all, but nonetheless, it was whole, undented, and unaffected.

Tetra stood waiting for her crew to show up. Others had already arrived and were trying to break melons. Realizing that she would probably have to claim one, she went and searched through the melons, rolling one here and there. Her eyes caught on the second green melon. Something about it...

She picked it up and tossed it up and down idly, waiting for everyone else to show. Those guys are late...

The second green melon felt like a normal melon. About as heavy, smooth skin, cool....

Tetra stared intently at the melon. There really seemed to be nothing physically special. Maybe a simple sword would do the trick. She unsheathed the that was hanging at her waist and placed the melon down on the ground. Raising the sword, she brought it down with as much strength as the 13 year old girl could muster.

The skin didn't pierce or dent at all under the sword, and the sword slid off the smooth melon peel.
