My 2nd Casting on "Community" 11/30/09
First off let me say a few things, #1. I tend to think with my ovaries alot, so excuse my side remarks, and #2. I wrote this more of in a Journal fashion, I actually took the notebook on the set and wrote at the times it says, so I wouldn't miss much...I have some pictures, mainly just me and my sister (nccorefan) goofing off or of things around the set...If you want to see them let me know, and I'll either post them in another post to the community, or I'll link you to my facebook/myspace depending on how many want to see them...

So here we are...again :) Which is awesome! My sister Dawn (nccorefan) and I were once again casted on Community! Woot! Our call time was 7AM and only running on less than an hours sleep (I knew we shouldn't of tried to fall asleep with the TV on HBO!), we headed to Paramount Studios, and here we find ourselves sitting in the one and only Greendale Community College Cafeteria! BTW I am so sneaking pictures of it before we leave!
We arrived about an hour early, but Dawn's bladder wasn't gonna last much longer, so we headed onto the lot. Quickly finding Dawn a bathroom, and soon enough we were wandering the lot, trying to kill time. After walking by the production offices of "Men of a Certain Age", Trust me, I'll be stalking that office later trying to catch a glimpse of Scott Bakula! (Many of you already know how I feel about that man! )
Anyways, so after wandering for a bit, we sat at the outdoor area of the cafe, relaxing, trying to stay warm and just shooting the breeze! I was actually kind of nervous, I was convinced Joel was going to recognize us from meeting him a couple weeks ago or something... Anywho!..We're talking and chatting when all of a sudden in the middle of the conversation Dawn goes quiet. I'm looking at her, and staring directly into my eyes, she darts her eyes to the side, then back at me. Before I could ask "what the hell?" I hear voices coming from behind me. (Thank god I wore my hearing aids today!) So I'm staring at my sister as the voices get louder, and all of a sudden I see Danny Pudi and Donald Glover walking behind my sister talking. They both glanced over to us, and gave me a quick nod as they continued walking towards the set. Now, Dawn's staring at me with wide eyes, and a big grin on her face. I know that grin.It's the "OMG there's Danny Pudi, be still my ovaries" grin. So they walk by and all of a sudden, Dawn like flies out of her chair and goes "You know what that means?" then yells "YES!" as she does the whole 'cha-ching' motion. (Can you tell were related? We both think with our ovaries way too much!)
Finally, we get in line to check-in and we hear "Hey Ladies!" We turn around and see one of the regular extras, that we had met last time, she was standing in line behind us. (Now from what I hear, It's a GOOD thing if you get remembered and the crew and cast start talking to you, because that means you could get personally requested to become regular or semi-regular extras on the set...so hopefully it's a good thing...) We smiled at her as she continued to speak "You know I was just thinking about you two, I was wonderin if you two made it home safe last time you were here" We both smiled as I said "Yeah" and she just like rolls her eyes and goes "Well Yeah, you're here so I'm guessing so..." LOL We chatted with her until Spyder (The A.D.) showed up and checked us in.
We get up to Spyder and get this...Spyder remembered us too! I said my first name and he remembered my last name and my sister's name, and goes "It's good seeing you two back here"...(I'm hoping that's a good sign..)
So we get checked in, and get our paperwork, we walk to wardrobe who quickly gives us the OK, there were only 20 extras today, so it went pretty quick and mostly everyone dressed appropriately. We got sent to props, where they gave me a Statistics Book and a bag to carry, but I am so jealous of Dawn! She gets to carry a "Greendale Community College" bag as a prop! Lucky!
That brings us to now, sitting in the cafeteria killing time, we just heard that Chevy is on set so things should get interesting...
12:10PM
So we're on break so I figured I'd tell you some funny moments that have happened so far. First off, this is the first episode from when the students return from break...I'm not sure if that means it's not gonna air til January or not...But we're filming the scene in the study room where all of the cast sees each other for the first time after break...So we walk into the library, and get sent to the hallway in the back, behind the study room, we're standing there chilling, and amazingly all of the crew were talking to us today...I was talking and joking around with alot of the sound guys (hopefully another good sign?) So, Spyder sends another A.D. over to cue us and she immediately comes over and asks for Dawn and I's name...we tell her and for the rest of the scene she continued to call us by our first name, which is a first for any extra work I've done...Anyways, so we're leaning against the table, goofing off when I'm watching them light this one stand-in that I didn't recognize, and who do I see walk in behind him...yep...so I whisper to Dawn "Oh my god, Oh My god" and she just looks back at me with these wide eyes. So I'm trying to keep myself calm, so I'm like " Maybe he won't see us" and Dawn goes "yeah, he won't even remember us..." So Joel walks into the study room, facing us directly, peers through the glass, looks me right in the eye, then I see him glance to my sister, then look back at me, and he just smiles wide. I've been convincing myself, that he's just being nice,he doesn't remember us at all...
Come to find out Joel is in ALL of our scenes today, yeah that's gonna get interesting....So we film the first scene a few times, Poor Dawn was placed in a room in the far back and was simply told to walk back and forth to make shadows...she was all alone back there...I felt bad..I was in the hallway directly behind the study room, doing my walking...
Back to my stories...
Well one of the funniest things that happened was, we were filming the scene and Chevy Chase was supposed to enter and join the group of Abed, Troy, Britta, Annie, and Shirley. Chevy missed his cue, so when he walked into the scene, he gets 5 feet from the group, stops dead in his tracks and says "I'm late" then...I kid you not folks, I couldn't make this up if I tried...he leans to the right, lifts his left leg up and let's this loud, 10 second fart fly! OMG I was dying! I'm immature as it is, but I was laughing so hard...after I recovered from the intial shock of it all.
The whole crew was just laughing hysterically, everyone was dying, when the sound guy speaks up and goes "Was that a duck?" OMG! Everyone just laughed harder, I look at the cast and they are all just dying, even Joel who is standing off camera is laughing hysterically. Then to add to it, Donald Glover yells "Eww...It smells like tomatoes!" which just made us all laugh even harder, as poor Abed and Britta are like covering their noses. So pretty soon the whole cast has their noses covered, when Chevy just shrugs and goes "Oh come on! Everyone Farts!" Seriously! It was hillarious! There are alot of things I never thought I'd see, and witnessing that was one of them...It was the best laugh I'd had in a while...Me and Dawn were laughing so hard we had tears...and Chevy just had the biggest smile on his face the whole time....
Once we all calmed down, we finally finished that part and were moving on to Joel's scene, he was making me laugh cause everytime he messed up he would yell "F***ing Mother F***er!" It was actually very cute! They were filming this group hug scene and Joel just kept ad-libbing every time. One time he hugged them all, and then yells "F*** you all!", another time Joel hugs them all and he goes "I've missed you all!" and then looks directly at Shirley and goes "But not you..." That one killed me! I was laughing at that one!
So before the next scene, Dawn is back in her little room doing shadow work again, and I'm standing there in position by myself, next to one of the Sound Guys, when I see Chevy walking back towards me. I watch as he's talking to the sound guys, so I whisper to the nearest sound guy "He ain't gonna do it again is he?" which just cracked the sound guy up. He starts laughing, then goes "I hope not..." So Chevy keeps walking, then next thing I know he is standing right next to me and goes "You see those West Hollywood shoes?" I was floored! I mean...THE Chevy Chase was talking to me! So immediately I go "No sir, I didn't" (yeah I totally flew into polite Military mode...I grew up in the military, with a father who was BIG military man, so it happens sometimes) Chevy just smiles, and turns to the sound guy, I look over to the sound guy who is whispering to me "Don't call him sir!" Chevy laughs a bit and says "She's polite...let's get her on the set more often..we'll fix that!" then giving me a wide smile. I was blushing so bad, then Chevy goes "Now, back to those West Hollywood Shoes..." when the sound guy goes "Who's wearing West Hollywood Shoes?" to which Chevy mouths the word "Joel' to us...It was funny!
So Dawn finally is allowed to work in the same hallway as me...Yippee! I got my buddy back! LOL so we're doing the next scene and I'm positioned on the far side, waiting for my cue. Now Joel wasn't in this scene so he was sitting next to the director where all the cast chairs were, which happens to be right next to where my position was. So I'm standing there waiting, when I glance over and Joel looks right at me at that same time. Now I still have no idea if he remembers me from Santa Monica, so I politely smile back to him, and try to hide the blush in my cheeks, as I turn back to face the A.D. when I hear some noise. I glance quickly over and he is walking towards me! Joel is walking right towards me! I am like in total flip out mode at this point, and I'm like praying the A.D. cues me before he gets over next to me, and sure enough, right when he gets to me, the A.D. cues me and I do my walk, while I'm walking to the other side I pass Dawn who is walking to the position I just left, as we pass I mouth the words "Joel" to her, as she nods. I get to the other side, and I see Dawn glancing over, now to me it looks like she's looking at a wall, cause where Joel was, he was standing on the other side of a wall. Then I get the cue to cross back over, so I'm walking back over to my position, I pass Dawn and she just gives me this look. I take a deep breath and I'm thinking there's no way he's still there, but of course...when I get in position, guess who's standing right next to me.
Since we were filming in "the Library" there were shelves of books everywhere and Joel was looking at one of the books, so I'm basically trying to look anywhere but at the tall man standing next to me, as the director yells that we are now filming, which means no talking...So I'm standing there waiting for my cue, as I watch Joel glance back at me, and smile, I watch as he turns around, he places the book back on the shelf. This was like a scene from a movie cause he put the book down, and like 4 books fell with that book and they all crashed down the shelf and made this huge "BANG!" I'm standing there in shock, cause we're supposed to be quiet, Joel whispers "Oh shit!" as he tries to catch the books as they continue to fall, finally he stands back up and looks over to me and gives me this half smile, the director is looking down there at both of us, and Joel points to me like I did it! The director just starts laughing, as I'm like horrified and nodding my head "no" over and over again, staring at Joel with wide eyes, as he's smiling and nodding his head "yes" still pointing at me. So we get told to reset, and I walk over to the A.D. and the first thing I say was "That wasn't me" after explaining it to the A.D. she just laughs and goes "Don't worry about it, Joel's always doing things like that...we know it wasn't you!" Now looking back at it...it was pretty funny...

So we went on lunch around 1, not much has been going on since then. Mostly just waiting in holding, waiting to see what's next. Once we were put on lunch, Dawn and I decided we were gonna go to the cafeteria and see what they have, plus we needed as much caffeine as possible! So we leave the soundstage and as were leaving we end up walking directly behind Donald Glover, he's heading to the Cafeteria too! So the whole time we're like walking directly behind him. Then to make things funnier, we get to the cafeteria and we order our grilled cheese. Our order is #25 wanna take a guess who is #24...yep Donald Glover...So we're standing there waiting for our food when Donald looks over to us, and goes "Hi!" and giving us a little nod...so we say "Hi!" back and get our food and go to pay and who do we end up in line behind? Danny Pudi! He looks over to us and gives us a smile, as we waited for him to get done paying for his food.Then to make things even weirder, we ended up running into Danny like 3 times as we walked around the lot, each time he gave us a smile...

So we'd been sitting here awhile waiting for some kind of news, when Spyder came walking into holding. It really was weird, cause he walked right up to Dawn and I and goes "I need you two to stay ok?" Me and Dawn simply nodded, when the guy behind us goes "Well I was with them in the scene, you want me to stay too?" to which Spyder goes "Do you want to stay?" Then Spyder yells "I need 7 more volunteers to stay longer"...It was weird, I'm not sure why he did it like that, We think it's one of the following: 1- we're the only non-union extras on set that day, 2- we were on camera alot and they want to make sure we're still there, 3- Spyder likes us and knows we're easy to work with and will do anything he says, so he wanted us to stay, or 4-someone else either cast or crew said something to Spyder, to make us stay...we honestly don't know...we're just hoping it's a good sign...
Anyways, so he picks his volunteers and lets the other's go, which sucks for them cause they didn't even work 8 hours. After we found out we were staying, Spyder told us to just chill and he'd come get us when we were needed, so Dawn and I decided that we would step outside for a moment. We stepped outside, and we decided to give our grandpa a call. (Here's the thing, we're our grandpa's youngest grandkids, so he's always had kind of a soft spot for us. He calls us his 'monsters' cause we were always getting in trouble, like he did when he was a kid, we usually call him on holidays, but we couldn't get ahold of him on Thanksgiving, so we decided we would call him and chat for a bit, since we missed him on Thanksgiving.) So we call him, and Danny Pudi is sitting on a bench like right next to the door, and the moment he heard me say "Hi Grandpa!", his head snapped and his whole face lit up with this huge smile! You can tell Danny is really big on family, earlier today he was telling everyone how his mother will not curse, no matter what! Then he did an impression of what she sounds like when she hears someone else curse, anyways so I guess he dug the fact that we called our Grandpa...
After we got off the phone with our Grandpa, Dawn went back into holding, while I ran to try to find her some cough drops. Poor Dawn, for some reason she caught Laryngitis and it happened right in the middle of filming! One minute she was fine, the next minute her voice is gone! Which is kind of a funny story, we were waiting for our food, next to Donald Glover and Dawn's voice cracked. I asked her "What's wrong with your voice?" and without missing a beat she goes "My balls dropped!"...OMG I was dying, and Donald was just laughing...he liked that comeback! LOL
Anyways, so my old roomate called as I was walking back to the soundstage, so I picked up the phone and chatted with her a bit. I had just hung up the phone, as I walked by Danny Pudi who was sitting on the steps leading into his trailer. I was walking peacefully when he goes "Hi!" I literally looked around, making sure he was talking to me, when I looked back at him he goes "Hello!" I smiled as I yelled back "Hi!" and hurried into the sound stage.
So now us 10 out of the 20 are sitting here, waiting to see what's next. Rumors are it's gonna be an early day. I'm not happy about it, I need as many hours as possible, but only time will tell..,

Dawn had to pee...so we went to the bathroom...(Sorry I was joking with her telling I would put it in here, but she really did go the bathroom at this time...and so did I as matter of fact LOL)

So the cast just ate dinner and we saw how cute Joel looks in a Hawaiian shirt! Not really sure what was happening, but I overheard a part of a conversation between Yvette and Joel, and I heard Joel say to her "Don't take that! You are too beautiful for that! Don't put up with that! You're better than that!"...Yes...I swooned...How sweet is that? Right now, we're waiting for the crew to finish up with dinner, so we can get ours...It's sloppy joes, I don't like sloppy Joes, but they have fruity pebbles up there, and OMG I forgot how good that cereal is! I had a bowl earlier and loved it!

Amazingly, Spyder came in and moved us to set to film, the last scenes. We waited to be placed when Spyder asks "Who's dressed warm?" Another extra volunteered, but when Spyder told her he wanted her to be outside she started to whine and say "I don't really want to, but if you want me to..." Finally, Spyder said "Let me find someone else who's dressed warm to go with you?" Dawn spoke up. "We'll do it!" Spyder smiled wide at us and goes "You two will go outside and do it?" and we both we're like "Sure!" I think we pissed the other volunteer off by doing that, but it's like you're over there whining about it. I mean, we're pretty willing to do any thing on set, but don't say you'll do something then complain about it. Spyder and the crew has other things to do then listen to you whine. So Spyder walks us outside, opens the door for us, and once we're placed outside he goes "I really wanna Thank You ladies for doing this!" to which Dawn and I simply smiled and told him no problem. (Hopefully that made a good impression)
So we're standing outside when we realize the camera is going to be shooting directly at us, the director yells "We need some lights on the girls" when everyone, including the cast (yes Joel too) all look outside at us. It was a bit awkward, but it was kind of cool, cause the lighting guys came out and had to lite us, they had to measure the light and place it just right and everything. Yeah I felt kind of special...We had our own special spot light!
We're standing outside waiting to film, and next thing we know we see Yvette walking by us, and she totally waves to us and goes "Hi!" so we waved back. That was pretty cool, considering we hadn't really met her. Then on top of that, we're waiting some more, and we hear a golf cart coming up the road, so we're watching it drive by us and who is it? Ray Romano! Yeah, he's driving the golf cart, he sees Dawn and I and waves and smiles at us! It was surreal! Of course had it been Scott Bakula, I probably would of yelled something...but it was really cool!
Final Thoughts:
So we officially clocked out at 7:48, so almost a 12 hour day if you count the lunch. Not too bad...I mean could be better, could be worse. It really was too much fun! We clocked out with Spyder and told him we'd probably be back and he was like "Good, I want you too come back"...so we're hoping we're on the right road. It's so much fun on the set, and we met some really cool people and friends. I can't wait to go back...I still have no idea if Joel remembered us or not, I'm still waiting to hear back from The Soup about my tickets, I'll let you know if I find anything out...

I am like in total flip out mode at this point, and I'm like praying the A.D. cues me before he gets over next to me, and sure enough, right when he gets to me, the A.D. cues me and I do my walk, while I'm walking to the other side I pass Dawn who is walking to the position I just left, as we pass I mouth the words "Joel" to her, as she nods. I get to the other side, and I see Dawn glancing over, now to me it looks like she's looking at a wall, cause where Joel was, he was standing on the other side of a wall. Then I get the cue to cross back over, so I'm walking back over to my position, I pass Dawn and she just gives me this look. I take a deep breath and I'm thinking there's no way he's still there, but of course...when I get in position, guess who's standing right next to me.
Since we were filming in "the Library" there were shelves of books everywhere and Joel was looking at one of the books, so I'm basically trying to look anywhere but at the tall man standing next to me, as the director yells that we are now filming, which means no talking...So I'm standing there waiting for my cue, as I watch Joel glance back at me, and smile, I watch as he turns around, he places the book back on the shelf. This was like a scene from a movie cause he put the book down, and like 4 books fell with that book and they all crashed down the shelf and made this huge "BANG!" I'm standing there in shock, cause we're supposed to be quiet, Joel whispers "Oh shit!" as he tries to catch the books as they continue to fall, finally he stands back up and looks over to me and gives me this half smile, the director is looking down there at both of us, and Joel points to me like I did it! The director just starts laughing, as I'm like horrified and nodding my head "no" over and over again, staring at Joel with wide eyes, as he's smiling and nodding his head "yes" still pointing at me. So we get told to reset, and I walk over to the A.D. and the first thing I say was "That wasn't me" after explaining it to the A.D. she just laughs and goes "Don't worry about it, Joel's always doing things like that...we know it wasn't you!" Now looking back at it...it was pretty funny...

So we went on lunch around 1, not much has been going on since then. Mostly just waiting in holding, waiting to see what's next. Once we were put on lunch, Dawn and I decided we were gonna go to the cafeteria and see what they have, plus we needed as much caffeine as possible! So we leave the soundstage and as were leaving we end up walking directly behind Donald Glover, he's heading to the Cafeteria too! So the whole time we're like walking directly behind him. Then to make things funnier, we get to the cafeteria and we order our grilled cheese. Our order is #25 wanna take a guess who is #24...yep Donald Glover...So we're standing there waiting for our food when Donald looks over to us, and goes "Hi!" and giving us a little nod...so we say "Hi!" back and get our food and go to pay and who do we end up in line behind? Danny Pudi! He looks over to us and gives us a smile, as we waited for him to get done paying for his food.Then to make things even weirder, we ended up running into Danny like 3 times as we walked around the lot, each time he gave us a smile...

So we'd been sitting here awhile waiting for some kind of news, when Spyder came walking into holding. It really was weird, cause he walked right up to Dawn and I and goes "I need you two to stay ok?" Me and Dawn simply nodded, when the guy behind us goes "Well I was with them in the scene, you want me to stay too?" to which Spyder goes "Do you want to stay?" Then Spyder yells "I need 7 more volunteers to stay longer"...It was weird, I'm not sure why he did it like that, We think it's one of the following: 1- we're the only non-union extras on set that day, 2- we were on camera alot and they want to make sure we're still there, 3- Spyder likes us and knows we're easy to work with and will do anything he says, so he wanted us to stay, or 4-someone else either cast or crew said something to Spyder, to make us stay...we honestly don't know...we're just hoping it's a good sign...
Anyways, so he picks his volunteers and lets the other's go, which sucks for them cause they didn't even work 8 hours. After we found out we were staying, Spyder told us to just chill and he'd come get us when we were needed, so Dawn and I decided that we would step outside for a moment. We stepped outside, and we decided to give our grandpa a call. (Here's the thing, we're our grandpa's youngest grandkids, so he's always had kind of a soft spot for us. He calls us his 'monsters' cause we were always getting in trouble, like he did when he was a kid, we usually call him on holidays, but we couldn't get ahold of him on Thanksgiving, so we decided we would call him and chat for a bit, since we missed him on Thanksgiving.) So we call him, and Danny Pudi is sitting on a bench like right next to the door, and the moment he heard me say "Hi Grandpa!", his head snapped and his whole face lit up with this huge smile! You can tell Danny is really big on family, earlier today he was telling everyone how his mother will not curse, no matter what! Then he did an impression of what she sounds like when she hears someone else curse, anyways so I guess he dug the fact that we called our Grandpa...
After we got off the phone with our Grandpa, Dawn went back into holding, while I ran to try to find her some cough drops. Poor Dawn, for some reason she caught Laryngitis and it happened right in the middle of filming! One minute she was fine, the next minute her voice is gone! Which is kind of a funny story, we were waiting for our food, next to Donald Glover and Dawn's voice cracked. I asked her "What's wrong with your voice?" and without missing a beat she goes "My balls dropped!"...OMG I was dying, and Donald was just laughing...he liked that comeback! LOL
Anyways, so my old roomate called as I was walking back to the soundstage, so I picked up the phone and chatted with her a bit. I had just hung up the phone, as I walked by Danny Pudi who was sitting on the steps leading into his trailer. I was walking peacefully when he goes "Hi!" I literally looked around, making sure he was talking to me, when I looked back at him he goes "Hello!" I smiled as I yelled back "Hi!" and hurried into the sound stage.
So now us 10 out of the 20 are sitting here, waiting to see what's next. Rumors are it's gonna be an early day. I'm not happy about it, I need as many hours as possible, but only time will tell..,

Dawn had to pee...so we went to the bathroom...(Sorry I was joking with her telling I would put it in here, but she really did go the bathroom at this time...and so did I as matter of fact LOL)

So the cast just ate dinner and we saw how cute Joel looks in a Hawaiian shirt! Not really sure what was happening, but I overheard a part of a conversation between Yvette and Joel, and I heard Joel say to her "Don't take that! You are too beautiful for that! Don't put up with that! You're better than that!"...Yes...I swooned...How sweet is that? Right now, we're waiting for the crew to finish up with dinner, so we can get ours...It's sloppy joes, I don't like sloppy Joes, but they have fruity pebbles up there, and OMG I forgot how good that cereal is! I had a bowl earlier and loved it!

Amazingly, Spyder came in and moved us to set to film, the last scenes. We waited to be placed when Spyder asks "Who's dressed warm?" Another extra volunteered, but when Spyder told her he wanted her to be outside she started to whine and say "I don't really want to, but if you want me to..." Finally, Spyder said "Let me find someone else who's dressed warm to go with you?" Dawn spoke up. "We'll do it!" Spyder smiled wide at us and goes "You two will go outside and do it?" and we both we're like "Sure!" I think we pissed the other volunteer off by doing that, but it's like you're over there whining about it. I mean, we're pretty willing to do any thing on set, but don't say you'll do something then complain about it. Spyder and the crew has other things to do then listen to you whine. So Spyder walks us outside, opens the door for us, and once we're placed outside he goes "I really wanna Thank You ladies for doing this!" to which Dawn and I simply smiled and told him no problem. (Hopefully that made a good impression)
So we're standing outside when we realize the camera is going to be shooting directly at us, the director yells "We need some lights on the girls" when everyone, including the cast (yes Joel too) all look outside at us. It was a bit awkward, but it was kind of cool, cause the lighting guys came out and had to lite us, they had to measure the light and place it just right and everything. Yeah I felt kind of special...We had our own special spot light!
We're standing outside waiting to film, and next thing we know we see Yvette walking by us, and she totally waves to us and goes "Hi!" so we waved back. That was pretty cool, considering we hadn't really met her. Then on top of that, we're waiting some more, and we hear a golf cart coming up the road, so we're watching it drive by us and who is it? Ray Romano! Yeah, he's driving the golf cart, he sees Dawn and I and waves and smiles at us! It was surreal! Of course had it been Scott Bakula, I probably would of yelled something...but it was really cool!
Final Thoughts:
So we officially clocked out at 7:48, so almost a 12 hour day if you count the lunch. Not too bad...I mean could be better, could be worse. It really was too much fun! We clocked out with Spyder and told him we'd probably be back and he was like "Good, I want you too come back"...so we're hoping we're on the right road. It's so much fun on the set, and we met some really cool people and friends. I can't wait to go back...I still have no idea if Joel remembered us or not, I'm still waiting to hear back from The Soup about my tickets, I'll let you know if I find anything out...
