RollerCoaster of Life and Meeting Joel McHale!!!
So you know how everyone says life is a roller coaster? How things happen for a reason? I'm not sure if that's true but I definitely believe it more than I did a few days ago...
Let's begin shall we? Hill #1: So I was hired on at Panera Bread...which is good right? So there was a bit of a drop because we found out that one of Dawn (my sister) and I's favorite actors/comedians/hotties...Joel McHale was signing autographs, but we couldn't go because I was supposed to go to Panera Bread's Orientation that night. We were a bit bummed but we figured "Hey, Mel is making money, so No big deal, we'll just meet him some other time..."
So I wake up Tuesday, getting ready for my Orientation when the phone rings...get ready for the big drop folks...My boss from Panera Bread calls and tells me that the orientation has been cancelled. Now I'm thinking It's fine, but then she tells me that the next orienataion isn't til after the new year and I CAN NOT start until I attend orientation! I immediately ask "Is there anything I can do?" I was shot down by my boss who simply said that she would keep in touch and contact me after the new year...comforting aint she? I was so upset! I mean this was supposed to be my official paycheck and *POOF* all down the drain!
So I hang up and call Aaron, Dawn and I's casting agent, I had origanlly told him NO castings since I though I would working all week. So I tell him were open to all castings and close the phone and just break down. I'm just balling my eyes out, I had thought my life was finally working out and boom, it all crashed to the floor in the matter of just a few hours. I cried for a bit, as I sat on the couch still silently sobbing when Dawn goes, "Let's calm you down" as I nodded my head. After a quick sister hug, we went to Baja Fresh grabbed some food and came home and turned on The Soup from the DVR. It got me laughing, as my tears were subsiding.
After The Soup I was feeling a bit better, so Dawn and I watched True Blood together, which calmed me more, and within only moments of it ending I took a nap. When I'm upset like that a nap is usually the best thing for me and sure enough when I woke up I was much more relaxed and feeling better about things.
We were talking with our roomate and friend Laura and her youngest son Michael, because we had to watch Michael that night. Dawn's phone goes off with a tweet from Joel McHale saying that he was getting ready to leave for the signing. I was saying something like "Aww...we can't go!" only to hear Michael say "Why not?", so I said "Well we're wathcing you tonight..." only for Michael to say "Take me with you!" Dawn and I looked at each other when I decided "Why not?" I mean it was already a bit late, so I honestly said "there's no way we're gonna meet him, but at leas we'll be able to see him." So we all got in the car and headed towards Santa Monica.
To say the drive was bumpy would be an understatement, I was so nervous about meeting Joel that my nerves were in high gear & when my nerves get in high gear, it gets bad! So a normal hour and half drive turned into over 2 hours with us stopping every few minutes. We finally get there and parked and after a quick stop to the bathrooms, we hurried to the 3rd street promenade.
We knew he was signing in the Apple store, but we honestly had no ideal where the Apple store was, considering the promenade is made up of an outside mall, and a double story inside mall. We glanced around before we started walking towards the directory. Walking to the directory I glanced down the street and saw the Apple store a few stores down.
I quickly showed Dawn and Michael and we hurried to the store. Now the whole way I'm thinking we've had to of missed him, so we walk in the store and Joel is still signing autographs. Immediately, my stomach flies into knots as I watch him for a few moments. After my little drool fest I looked aorund for the line, which of course is cut off! Just a little drop folks! Hang on!
I should of just let it go, but I'm sorry, it was bad day plus the drive so I walked up to the employee and sais "Please tell me the line is not closed! I've had the day from hell and we just drove 3 or so hours to get down here to meet him...Please?" The employee smiled and said "Well you missed him talking but go ahead" as he opened the line for us to get in. We thanked him over and over again, as the employee smiled and said it was no problem. We were the last ones in line until one of the Apple store employees got off shift and climbed in line behind us.
Dawn and I were so excited we began fighting over whether Dawn was going to go first,or me, or even send 10yr old MIchael up there first. So the time comes and I walk up there first. Joel who was SO CUTE goes "I'm Joel" holding out his hand for me to shake with a wide smile on his face. I blushed so hard as I shook his hand and replied "I'm Melissa" Joel looked to Dawn and Michael and goes "Bring the whole group up here!" so I waved Dawn and Michael up, and I introduced them to Joel, who shook their hands.
I said "Your a great ending to a horrible day and a 3hr drive!" Joel smiled wide asking where we had driven in from as I said "Palmdale". He then asked "You drove 3 hours for me?" as I blushed like a tomatoe. Then I asked "Can we get your autograph?" Joel smiled again and walked us to this small table to sign the autographs. He signed mine first as I couldn't stop laughing as he signed it: "Melissa, Chicken Tettrazini <3 Joel McHale" (if you watch The Soup, you'll get it) Joel then looked at Michael and goes "What is your relation to these two ladies?" Michae; simply smiled for a moment when I spoke up "We didn't kidnap him!" Joel smiled as he asked Michael again "How do you know these ladies?" Michael was shy, so I answered "We're his mother's roommates" to which Joel asked Michael if he played football, Michael said No, so Joel responded "You will..." Joel then signed his autograph "Stay off Reality TV"
Joel turned to Dawn as I told him we were sisters and we were both extras on Community, when Joel smiled and goes "When?" Dawn and I both responded "STD Fair", which Joel cracked up laughing and goes "Oh that episode!" Joel began signing Dawn's autograph "It was nice working wiht you, but not as nice as Seacrest!" which cracked us up! If you don't watch The Soup, you should know Joel and Ryan Seacrest are ALWAYS picking on each other.So right after he signs that, Dawn goes "Yeah I don't got those frosty tips!" to which I say "It's the frosty tips that get ya every time!" Joel just busts up laughing! He was laughing when he goes "You two should come down and see me do The Soup sometime!" (OMG I about died right there!) So I quickly say "We Want Too! We Love THE SOUP! We don't know how to get tickets!" to which Joel goes "Oh it's easy!" and proceeds to tell me what I need to do to get tickets and how they are always looking for audience members. He then says " You should definitely come see The Soup!"
We then asked if we could get a picture and he was like "Sure"
I'm the one in the hat, my sister NCCOREFAN is the one in the blue...
So we all got a picture with him, we thanked him again as he shook my hand again, he goes "No it was my pleasure meeting ya, definitely do what I told you and come see me at The Soup" Dawn and I both agreed, as he shook Michael's hand and told us to drive safe, then he turned and looked directly at Michael and said "You drive safe! No falling asleep at the wheel! and get these girls home safe ok?" Michael just giggled and nodded his head as he shook Joel's hand, then Joel goes "and don't let these girls get out of hand ok?" again which Michael just giggled. We said goodbye and walked away.
At that point I was on cloud 9, but little did I know another Hill was coming my way. As we were driving home, our casting agent calls and says that BOTH Dawn and I were casted on the TV show "Party Down" as Hippies for the next 3 days!
It's crazy how things work out I guess? If Panera Bread wouldn't of screwed up none of this would of happened! Maybe, just maybe things work out the way they are supposed to?
BTW we've already contacted who we needed to contact to go see The Soup, we should know when we're going by next week..I'm so excited! The Soup Live!!!
