I know a lot of people don't make them because they never keep them. The fact that I never keep them, however, doesn't mean a lot to me. I've got to have very specific goals to have a direction to head in. Otherwise I just feel like I'm floating. Every year around this time, usually for several weeks, I put a lot of thought into figuring out where I want to go this year. Since I'm a multifaceted kind of person, I typically set specific goals in each area of interest.
Exercise
We got a Wii along with Wii Fit for Christmas. Also, Chris got a hold of a copy of EA Games Active: More Workouts. I've taken up the 6 week challenge on it and it's a fantastic workout so far! I've done 3 of the 24 workouts. I've got it set on high intensity, but it's really not too much. I have to push through the workouts, but I'm not killing myself. I pushed way harder when I was running. Also, it has the added benefit of working several muscle groups plus cardio in one 30 minute workout. It's fast paced and changes daily so I'm not likely to get bored with it. Plus, there's cardio boxing and kickboxing! It feels really good to throw a few punches and kicks some days. ;)
I like to do that 30+/- minute workout, then follow it up with a 30+/- minute routine of yoga on the Wii Fit. I think I'm going to pick one of my rest days (there are 3 per week) to do one of the one hour flow based yoga routines on my DVD.
I have every intention of picking running again, soon. But this year I don't feel I have so much to prove that I need to get out in this weather to run. I'm skipping the Zoo 5k this year since it's in 2 weeks and I'm totally not ready for it. I'll find one maybe 8-10 weeks from now and try to get back into it. I have no idea where I am on running anymore, so I'm going to guess I'll have to have a week of just running as long as I can to figure out what sort of mileage I can do now. I was at 2.5 miles when I left off, but that was last summer.
I'm not setting any specific race goals this year. At least not yet.
Home Organization
I'm taking on the
15 week Grand Plan Cleaning Challenge to attempt to get our house decluttered and reorganized from top to bottom by the time gardening season hits. This has been tons of fun to prepare for and I'm trying to make my organization and list making as paperless as possible. I'm using Google Docs and Calendar to keep track of when I'm supposed to work on what rooms and make checklists for things that need to be done in each area. An hour per day, 4 days per week (similar to my workout schedule) is what I plan to devote to it for the next 15 weeks. On the fifth day, I'll spend some time (up to, but not exceeding an hour) to plan the following week's cleaning/organizing/home improvement project finishing sessions. Since a huge amount of deep cleaning got done in the month of December, now is a great time to do this. If the house is already mostly clean, I can spend time to really declutter and reorganize. And I love this stuff! I love to organize (hate to clean) and love to make lists. It's right up my alley!
After this is done, I'll take a few weeks off to get all the gardens ready for summer and then move back inside to make the same rounds, but trying to finish up rooms with home improvement projects we've been putting off. One room at a time, I'll tackle little things until each room is where we want it.
There again, I'm not going to set a specific "I want x number of rooms completely done" or whatever. I'm just going to keep plugging away at that 3 page list I made when we moved in. Thus far for everything I've crossed off the list, I've added three more. I have to remind myself that's still progress. ;)
