Title: What If?
Pairing: There isn't any real pairing
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Well, I guess Preggers
Summary: written for the glee_angst_meme prompt what if at Kurt's coming out Burt wasn't so accepting?

The words stung. They always stung but it seemed that every time the pain would lessen. After awhile, Kurt just took the verbal beatings and held the pain in. He tried to find ways to let out the hurt he felt. He tried to exercise but after awhile he was too skinny and his dad would yell at him for it and tell him that he was just one giant fuck up. Then, he tried singing and dancing. It worked, until he had his music on too high and his father found out, the yelling just got louder and longer after that. He was worthless and he knew it.

~~~---~~~
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Kurt couldn’t look at his father without wanting to cry. “Do you enjoy making me look bad? Do you enjoy making this family look bad?”
Kurt said nothing, just continued to stare at his shoes.
“Answer me you sick fuck!” The pain in his jaw took Kurt by surprise. His father had never hit him before. “First you disgrace this family by loving other men and now you want to show me disrespect by ignoring me?” Another punch.
“No sir.” The words were whispered. “Never sir.”
“And yet you still do it!” Kurt braced himself for the next punch, but it never came. “I’m done with you, you pathetic little queer.”
Kurt didn’t move when he heard his father walk away but as soon as his father’s footsteps couldn’t be heard, Kurt ran to his bedroom. His father never hit him. Why was today different? Why did his father choose today to hit him? He hadn’t done anything. He didn’t mean to disappoint his father but he couldn’t fight who he was but he couldn’t handle the pain of it all. He didn’t want to let his dad down. They were all that was left of the Hummel family and he didn’t want to be the reason that the family name died out. He couldn’t let his father down anymore. He wanted to be the son his father always wanted.
So, from that day on, Kurt changed the way he dressed, from designer clothes to baggy t-shirts and loose fighting jeans. He changed the music he liked. He did the one thing he thought he’d never do; he changed who he was completely, all so that his father would be proud. Three girlfriends and a few football wins later, and his dad hugged him and said he was proud of him. Kurt had reached his goal; his father was proud of him, and all it took was Kurt slowly dying inside to do it.
