Pairing,Character(s): Kurt/Puck
Rating: PG
Spoilers: up to episode 6, just to be safe
Summary: Puck misses Kurt

You miss him. Then again, it was your fault that he was gone. You were the one who told him to leave. The one who pushed him away. It’s not that you wanted to push him away, but the football team was giving you crap and treating him worse. Instead of just throwing Kurt into the dumpster, they would beat him up, then throw him in the dumpster. It hurt, watching them to do this to him, and not being able to stop it.

So, you told him to leave. Told him you didn’t care about him anymore. He just stared at you, tears running down his face. He turned and walked away from you, leaving you standing in the hallway by yourself, trying not to cry. You couldn’t cry, not when the rest of the school could see you. So, you turn and walk out of the school. Screw the rest of school, and whatever practices you have after school. You just don’t care anymore.

~~~---~~~
It’s been a week, and you still miss him. It doesn’t help that you see him at glee club, and football practice. But, you want to see him. You don’t want to get over him. Only you can know that though. The football team has backed off a little. Returning to just throwing Kurt in the dumpster every morning. You help. You go back to your role in torturing him. Putting an arm around his shoulder every time a teacher walks by. You have to smirk as you throw him in, or the football team will think you’ve gone soft again. You walk away from the dumpster with the football team, making jokes and laughing. You never look back.
~~~---~~~

Two weeks. You’ve learned how to hide how you feel. Learned how to be near him without wanting to hold him. It’s still hard, but you’ve managed. Kurt has too. Kurt acts like nothings happened, he jokes around with the rest of glee, still doesn’t get along with the football players though. He smiles more than he use to, given it’s not a real smile. You know what his real smile looks like, and the way he smiles now is nothing like a real one. You miss his smile. You miss making him smile.

“Puck?” Finn is staring at you. “You in there man?”

“What do you want?” You really don’t want to talk to him right now.

“You okay?” He looks concerned.

“Fine.” Even though you aren’t. If you and Kurt were still together, tomorrow would have been three months, not that you keep track of that kind of stuff. That was always Kurt’s job. You just smiled whenever he mentioned some anniversary.

“Dude, I’ve known you for long enough to know you aren’t fine” You just roll your eyes and try to leave the room.

Finn moves so that he’s standing in your way. “Hey, wanna meet up in here tomorrow to work on the number for glee?”

You nod. “Whatever.” You really just want to leave.

“Cool.” He turns to leave. “Oh, and I’ll take care of the football guys.”

You just stare after him. He’ll deal with the football guys? What does that mean. You figure that this can’t be good but you’re just don’t care anymore.

~~~---~~~
You get there early, you’re not really sure why, it just kinda happens that way. Finn shows up a few minutes late, a smile on his face. You just figure that he’s on those happy pills again. You’re about to make a comment about his tardiness when you notice the boy that walks into the room after Finn. The boy is staring at you, he looks scared, and you guess your face looks the same.
“Shoot.” You look over at Finn who’s looking through his book bag. “I left my book in class. I’ll be right back.”
You think you nod, but you’re not sure. You watch Finn leave the room, and then your eyes go back to the other boy who was still standing by the door. He isn’t looking at you anymore. Instead he’s staring at his shoes. You smile; you had gotten him those shoes for your one-month anniversary. You run a hand over your jeans, his gift for one-month. He had gotten them for you because he thought your wardrobe was pitiful, or something to that affect. He had tried to get you skinny jeans, but you had vetoed those. So he had decided to just buy you a nice pair that didn’t have holes.
“Three.” His voice is soft.
You look down at your feet. “I know.”
“Why?” He’s looking at you now, tears on his face.
You want to go over to him and wipe the tears off his face but know that nothing good would come from it. You shake you’re head, “It was for the best.”
He doesn’t say anything, but the tears continue to come.
You stand up, but don’t move any closer to him. “You were getting hurt. Badly.”
He shakes his head, “I had you.” He’s looking down again. “I could handle the pain because I knew you would be there to comfort and hold me afterwards.”
“I couldn’t.” You walk over to him, pulling him into a hug. “I hated seeing you hurting. I couldn’t stand it.”
Normally you would be disgusted by how much of a sap you were being but you didn’t care. He was in your arms again. With him, you could be anyone, act anyway and he would accept you, and only he would ever see you this way. You pull away slightly, so you can wipe away his tears.
He smiles, a sad smile. He knows that this won’t last. He knows that once you leave this room, you’ll go back to ignoring each other. You pull him close to you again. You can’t lose this; you can’t lose him, not again. Not ever again.
“Three.” He looks up at you, a confused look on his face. “And I can’t wait for four.” You smile as you press your lips to his and you can feel him smiling too.
