Regardless of my relationship status, Valentine's day always turns me into a bit of a cynic. I guess I remember how bad I felt about never getting anything in high school for Valentine's Day. I never got one of those carnations in High School, and I had completely forgotten about them until now so I don't think I was horribly scarred by it ;)

Michael and I will use any excuse to go out to a nice dinner together or buy each other gifts. For instance we spent about $120 on dinner Saturday night "because a snowstorm was coming and we'd be stuck inside for the rest of the weekend." Valentine's day is just another one of those days.

I do agree with your assessment of the commercialism around the holiday, but it's just like any other big holiday in America.
