So I just finished watching a documentary on Netflix (I am on a documentary kick right now apparently) about giving birth, and midwifery and home births and such versus ob-gyn and hospital births. (Called The Business of Being Born, not sure if this link will work
http://movies.netflix.com/WiPlayer?movieid=70075502&trkid=8379860&t=The+Business+of+Being+Born ) It was a fascinating watch. If I had seen it before finding my doc who I love, I might would have considered using a midwife instead. But then again, had I done that, would I have found out about my endo and had the surgery and had Ally at all? Who knows.
Not that I don't like how my birth went or anything...I am grateful to have had a vaginal delivery, I am grateful to have Ally be a healthy baby, I am grateful to not have had the infection I had be worse. I couldn't have done a home birth anyway, probably, because I had the GD which made me considered a "high risk" birth, pretty sure. Plus I had fully intended to get the epidural, which you obviously can't do in a home birth. But it was still very fascinating to watch some of these experiences. I figured since a lot of you have given birth in the last year, some of you might enjoy watching it too.
OK, now some Ally stuff...can't have *none,* can I? She has been working on language a bit lately. Some "words" that we have heard her say recently - some we are certain about, some she probably said, some just maybe - dada (to Paul), mama (to me), dog, duck (she loves her rubber duckies as well as the real thing), cat, bottle (baba), bye bye, baby (for her baby doll which she loves), kaykay (pretty sure for Auntie Kelly), and love (only once, and right after Gamma and I said "I love you" to her...a mimic thing, was neat).
She also signed her first word - milk - the other day. We were leaving Costco and she started crying and my dad in the back seat with her was like "Melissa, what is she signing? Something with her fist?" and I told him I dunno, she has never signed anything recognizable, but I showed him the sign for milk, and he was like, "Yes! That is what she is doing, look!" And I looked, and sure enough, she was definitely signing milk over and over. So we hurried back to dad's house and made her a bottle as quick as possible. Knowing Ally though, she was beta testing the sign and won't actually roll it out into production (aka do it again at all) for another month or so, lol.
We found a local restaurant that shows Doctor Who live as it airs, which is great since we cancelled our cable. They are a British restaurant, authentic fish and chips and whatnot, so I am excited for that. The whole place is decorated with mostly Doctor Who stuff, including a cardboard standy thingy of Matt Smith and David Tennant, as well as a Dalek. Good times.
Had some sort of stomach bug the last few days, that has been not fun. Trying to take care of a mobile, hyper 10 month old when every movement I make makes me feel like hurling is less than pleasurable. Dad watched her for me yesterday, which was a huge relief. Feeling mostly better today. (and no, I am not pregnant :-P)
I think that is all I was going to say. Hopefully maybe.
