this just happened on Facebook, felt like sharing it elsewhere.

First, there was this picture, and this is my original reaction:
I highly doubt they will see the hypocrisy in this any more than they see reason, and I believe that is the primary point of all this squabbling.
(This sentiment is aimed more at Republicans and Democrats than anyone overly religious, as the argument is different with religious persons than political persons.)

Then I read a few comments:
  1. Theresa Carter - Seriously! Boycotting Oreo's????? The last time I checked, the BIBLE stated that marriage was between 1 man and 1 woman. If God meant for humans to be homosexual, He would NOT have created Eve!!!!!
  2. Brian Watkins - I love people like Theresa Carter who say things so matter of factly, like they just dropped an irrefutable bombshell on the conversation. Hate to tell you but if your god is real, then homosexuals are only being what he made them to be. And "god" didnt make Eve, this was a easier answer long long ago when people didnt have the knowledge and technology to understand evolution at all. Asexual reproduction for instance, didnt require an adam an eve, just one or the either. Also for a quick second lets run with your version.. That means adam and eve slept with their children, then their children, then their children banged their children's children. Funny thing about religion, banging children is always considered a good idea.
  3. Michael Roche - Actually Lilith came before Eve. Research it .
  4. Scott Morgan - Hypocrisy is the flag of the religious right IMO

Which prompted this response from me, numbered for easy reference:
Not all Christians or religious persons are hypocrites, to make that very clear. (4)
You try to make a good argument Brian Watkins, against Theresa Carter, but much of what you've said either contradicts itself or is simply false. I'll explain why and how:

To say that Eve was not made from Adam and mentioning evolution is going to make most Christians ignore your point, and to infer that the Bible says Adam and Eve slept with their children, or that it was acceptable to, is misrepresenting what is actually said. Most Christians ignore the part of the Genesis which states that God man and woman, in his image, three times before he made Adam, who was to be their leader. This means there was not just Adam, then Eve, a woman made for him, unlike the others, and that there never was incest involved in the procreation of humanity. It is the masses of these other people who forsake God which brings about the Flood, and only those still with a relation to Adam and Eve and whom kept their love of God were allowed to live, another fact Christians ignore, because the Bible does not name them like it does Noah's family. (2)
The point that Michael Roche brings up, that Lilith came first, is a strictly Jewish creation which has many different tales, only one being as Adam's first wife, others being an animal died in the Floor, and yet another being a demon and monster. Either way, this is not argument enough for a Christian who does not recognise the Jewish folklore, of which none of this is stating in any Biblical text. (3)
As for Marriage, that is a concept that was in existence before the Bible, seen as early as in Mesopotamia, and since has been found in many forms, including between two persons of the same sex in Greek and Roman times. To assume that marriage is a concept wholly Christian is historically ignorant, and allowing yourself, whomever you are, to be blinded by what people have told you is in the Bible is blind ignorance. (1)
Yes, the supposed translations of what the Bible says are not always what people have lead you to believe, as there are part of the Bible lost because the Heads of State in Rome did not approve, and parts altered to fit that which the Heads of State wish to eradicate from the people by tainting it as a sin. It is also a shame that some of the parts which we translate with more modern words were not that centuries before, losing the true meaning and twisting these articles to suit the purpose of those who wish to suppress others different from them.
In the end, what people believe of the Bible is not the whole story, and to ignore history's effect on it is also blind ignorance, not something to judge a person for harsh until they allow it to blind them to learning. Please, everyone, educate yourself on the real facts.
The Bible preaches Love for your fellow persons and respect of God, the laws of the Old Testament only valid until Christ comes, the only laws of Old he repeats are the 10 Commandments and Love for your fellow persons. All parts of the Old Testament laws repeated in the New Testament were by Paul, who regularly contradicted himself in his letters about what Christ would have wanted, having not known the man for very long. On top of that, there was much more changed in the New than the Old Testament in all it's various 'translations'.

Forgive me for this rant if it offends you, it is simply made up of my own learnings and in some rare place, opinions, on the matter.
That last bit was more to cover my ass than anything.
