Flag Burning Amendment
They keep bringing this amendment up again and again. I do see it's purpose, I understand why people want it. I'm patriotic, I would never burn a flag out or protest myself, but I just can not back this law. It seems... almost anti-freedom to me.
After all, the flag is a symbol -- not freedom itself. The flag does not give us our freedom, it only represents. And while I do believe that we should respect the flag as we respect our own freedom and by destroying the flag we are disrespecting our own freedom... it is an action we are preforming against ourselves... and by our own choice.
Freedom as defined as our own unconfined and unrestricted actions... allows us to do as we choose. If we, we a people, limit the freedoms we have with our own symbol of freedom -- are we also not limiting our own freedoms?
