I haven't made an entry in a couple of weeks, I think. It's been kinda hectic at the university, with assignments and things, and I'm gearing up to record my first radio show. The Plato presentation went well, although we had some last-minute trouble. I promise to check my f-list and catch up with you all! :) I meant to write up posts on various things the past days, but one particular piece of news prompted this entry.
The X-Files movie, eeeeek! Ask me how excited I am. Go on, ask me!!
It's coming back, finally! They began shooting in Vancouver a couple of days ago, the first set pics have surfaced on the net, Gillian Anderson dyed her hair Scully red and David Duchovny is back to The Mulder Way Of Combing Your Hair. It's happening, after all these years. For people who loved the show, it's incredibly exhilarating to see the myth back in action.
And I LOVED the show. I started watching when I probably shouldn't, at age 9. I was a little too young to fully enjoy the show, but it captivated me like nothing else. I was really scared at times, that's for sure. I actively remember being afraid to go to the bathroom and suspiciously looking at ventilation systems for a long time after watching Tooms. I watched the first movie, and yelled at the screen along everybody else, when Mulder and Scully almost kissed, and then didn't. The last couple of seasons I didn't keep up with it, but I vaguely remember the bitching against Chris Carter and the writers, every time they failed to deliver. And then it was over. For a few years, all I had seen of The X-Files was some old tapes and the occasional icon on the net.
But now the new movie got into pre-production! I spazzed, I flailed, I screamed in joy. I knew there was greatness in this project. Because I had forgotten about a lot of things from the show, I decided to start watching it from the beginning (I am so grateful for the existence of the DVDs!). And this time around, I was able to fully enjoy the show, understand it and appreciate everything about it. Okay, there was vagueness, unanswered questions, occasional confusion about the mytharc and according to may people, a decline of a quality in the later seasons. But this show was great. The X-Files was an amazing addition to television history. So many episodes are top notch quality-wise. I love just about everything about it: the writing, the originality of the storylines, the acting all around (seriously, excellent work by everyone), and of course the characters. I don't think I've ever watched another show where there was such fascinating characters. Their dynamics and the relationships between them (not just Mulder and Scully, who by the way are the OTP of all time) made for great times. I find myself smiling when I watch it and realize just how good it is. That is, when I'm not staring at the TV in horror or fascination of whatever is going on in the episodes.
If all of that remains intact in the film, then I'll be there on opening day. Oh who am I kidding, I'm gonna be camping outside the theater from the night before anyway. And when the opening credits roll I'll cheer loudly and clap, and hope that others cheer with me. Quite simply, the anticipation is killing me!
