Right to Dry

Spring is FINALLY here. It's April and with Earth Day just behind us, Al Gore's residual green consciousness and eco-revolution continues with the Ontario provincial gov't overruling of builder "covenants" restricting the use of clotheslines, in an effort to curb energy use from dryers.
It's about time practicality trumps aesthetics.
Sure, I understand that developers don't want the street to look like downtown Hong Kong, but come on, these folks have forked out their hard-earned dollars for their real estate- live and let live.
I'd beg to differ with Victor Fiume's quote in the Star, ""With today's lifestyle, no one has the time or inclination to hang their clothes outside to dry."
Hey, we're all time-starved here but there's nothing like getting some rays on a bright clear day while hanging your clothes outside.
The presence of indoor drying racks in most stores would indicate otherwise.
People WANT to dry 'manually'.
For me it's a chance to stop and have a zen-out moment.
My msn username stems from my belief that when you pull fresh laundry from the line or dryer, everything for that fleeting moment is right in the world.
Unlike the pompous, shallow & selfish snots Fiume represents and advocates for, I believe the masses weclome the return of this long standing tradition.

laundry, dryers, developers, clotheslines, on gov't, green, earth day, builders
