Thoughts On Yaoi (no, really)

the_sun_is_up  asked me:

*pokepoke* Tell us your Thoughts On Yaoi! (No really, how do you feel about boy-slash? Intrigued? Grossed out? Deafened by the screams of the fangirls? Do tell!)

I really don't give a care. It doesn't disgust me unless it's explicit, in which case it's about as unpleasant to me as any other kind of hardcore pornography (which is actually ( Read more... )

why?, guys i'd not consider switching teams fo

I love yaoi, but I definitely agree, there should be more yuri. And then not the sort where it starts with a girl couple and a male character, ending with the couple breaking up and one of the girls starting something with the guy!

THAT SORT IS NOT ONLY THE WORST SORT OF YURI BUT THE WORST SORT OF ANYTHING IN MY OPINION.

If anything I have a wee bit resentment towards it for stealing the girl-slash thunder

You're not the only one! I like yaoi, but I still get annoyed when I go looking for fanart and find umpteen billion pictures of Random Slash Crackship #459 and no yuri. Cater to my needs, fandom! Cater!

Btw, as for why I asked the question: Most straight male fans I've come across have a tendency to run screaming and weeping in the opposite direction at the mere suggestion that, say, Batman and Robin might be more than just friends. So I was curious to see if you were one of those. ;)

YEESSSS. AND OH GOD IF I EVER RUN ACROSS THE PERSON WHO ONCE FELT THE NEED TO CROSS OVER NOIR AND BUFFY THE FUCKING VAMPIRE SLAYER JUST BECAUSE SHE FELT THE NEED TO PUT KIRIKA IN THE STRAIGHT RELATIONSHIP...
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE

I don't personally feel that that's the case with Batman and Robin, and it squicks me a little because of the paederasty that would be involved. But I can't deny that, for example, Captain America and Iron Man seem at times to have something very special going on. So, no, I'm not one of those. Yaoi just isn't relevant to my interests most of the time, positively or negatively.

Anubituf/Guragief is, of course, an exception.

Word on the "MORE YURI". I like yaoi, but I think it's somewhat overrated. Especially when people use yaoi as a tool to bash the female characters, or to totally leave them out of the narrative. (Or when they slash something they can't keep in character, because then I have to wonder what they think the point of their ship is.)

It's not so much that I think people are automatically adverse to het/yuri as it is that canon has to really push a het/yuri ship on fans in order for them to see it. Whereas, for some reason, people will see and slash any yaoi for the sole virtue of it being yaoi. They'll ship mortal enemies. They'll ship characters who never met. They'll ship crack!ships. And it doesn't have to make sense. Which is fine, I guess (because people don't have to cater to my wants, you know). But gah. Where are the crack!ship yuri pairings?

well I'm okay with yaoi, I read yaoi fanfics or doujinshis ocasionally. But like you, I don't like explicit ones since they sometimes gross me out 8\

I DON'T HATE YAOI I JUST WANT MORE YURI.
AGREED \o/

I'm sort of like that, except I'm the same way with femslash. I'll read it and might even find it hot, but it doesn't do as much for me as het (I'm strictly speaking about sexy stuff, here).
