Quick 'n' Dirty Petticoat

Okay. I've wanted to do this for a while; I'd like to start posting my own patterns/icon tutorials/etc. in my LiveJournal, because I think that simple yet effective patterns are the best.

Anyway, here is a pattern for the costumer on the go or extremely low on time (I know I can be!).

Supplies:
-Several yards of cotton or lightweight fabric (check instructions first), preferably white
-Single fold bias tape, one (or more) packages
-1/2" ribbon, 2 or so yards
-White gathered lace

1. Take your measurements from your waist to just above your ankles. Add about 3/4" for waist and bottom seam allowances. Multiply this by three.
2. Purchase required amount of fabric.
*Optional: If you are making a petticoat with a fabric ruffle, keep the required amount. First figure out how long you want your ruffle to be (5" or so), multiply that by six, and add 1 1/2" for each for seam allowance and hem.
If you are doing a lace ruffle, subtract the lace's length from your petticoat's desired length.
3. Cut fabric the required length three times. Pin the panels together with right sides facing.
*Optional: For fabric ruffle -- cut six of the ruffle length. Pin each piece together to form a large circle.
4. Stitch each seam.
*Optional: For fabric ruffle -- stitch seams. Stitch the hem (make it narrow to avoid bulkiness). Run a gathering stitch the length of one side. Gather to fit the skirt bottom, and sew it on.
**Optional: For lace ruffle -- sew lace around bottom.
5. Cut bias tape the circumference of one end plus one inch. Pin the tape, with right sides together. Fold the edges inward (outward, in this case, so they're facing the rest of the tape).
7. Fold the tape back over and stitch down.
8. Using a safety pin, thread the ribbon through the tape. Tie to fit.

And you're done! That wasn't too bad (or confusing), was it?

Lessee...I also changed my layout to the oncoming Fall, as well as the name to something a little more original.
