A bored Mel is a very bad thing. (Never mind that Mel actually has tons of work she should be doing, as well as Matrix fic to finish before the challenge deadline tomorrow. Hmm.)
So: comment with a fandom and a line from a song, and I shall give you drabble. :-)
(Also, why is there no mood icon for 'procrastinating'?)

For a moment, as always, he keeps his eyes closed and pretends she's still there. He rolls over, buries his face in the pillow that still carries her scent, inhales. Then he opens his eyes, gets out of bed, and pretends he doesn't care.
(The pattern stays the same: they meet to discuss the search for Sydney, then climb into bed together to forget their pain.)
Maybe next time she'll stay.

She thinks of three young girls instead, playing in the Moscow snow. They're laughing, happy, all three still innocent, all unknowing of the futures that lie ahead of them. (Yelena, an assassin; Katya, Khasineau's lover; Irina, a prisoner in this hellhole.)
She thinks of Mama and Papa and cold winter nights. She thinks of Babushka bent over the stove and the strong smell of borsht.
She thinks of anything except Jack, Sydney, and the child Yelena took away.
(But she dreams, and those she can't control.)

But sometimes when he looks at her, it's hard to convince herself that this is a bad idea, and the way he looks at her makes her wonder if he's got his own list about her.

She sits at the window, wrapped in a blanket, hugging her knees to her chest as she watches the snowflakes fall. She's cold; she's been cold for years. She drove into a river one night and hasn't been able to let go of the chill ever since.
"Come back to bed," he says.
She shakes her head; he's as cold as she is.
"Irina." He crosses the room and stands behind her. "We're going to find her."
She wants to believe. "I know."
"Now come back to bed."
And she lets him lead her back. (Because even ice can burn.)

He stares at her empty desk and it hits him, suddenly, sharply, that she's never again going to look up and tease him, never again going to laugh or smile. He glances at Gibbs' desk and wonders how he's feeling. Tony got over his own crush on Kate a long time ago; she was a friend, a sister to him. But Gibbs - there was always something more between them. Tony had seen it even on Air Force One.
Gibbs and Kate were supposed to realize they were in love, and get married and have children and live happily ever after. They deserved that; Kate deserved that.
There's no time for should-have-been's. They have a killer to catch.
