drabbles 11 - 20

21. Sweet
Wordcount: 108
Warnings: None

“You have a very sweet smile, Cara.”
Cara spun around so abruptly that Kahlan nearly walked into her. Her glare would once have had Kahlan reach for her daggers, but she knew the Mord-Sith now.
“Say what?” Cara drawled, an eyebrow raised in challenge.
“Your smile,” Kahlan pressed. “It’s lovely! A smile possesses a magic of its own, you know.”
Cara pursed her lips, studying her.
“Did you know that it takes 12 muscles to smile?” she asked finally. Kahlan laughed and shook her head. Cara rolled her eyes and continued walking. “Only takes 4 to smack you upside the head though,” she informed matter-of-factly over a shoulder.

22. Daring
Wordcount: 108
Warnings: Set after S02E22. "Tears"

”We haven’t fought anyone in weeks!” Cara declared.
”We haven’t,” Kahlan agreed.
“This is unusual.”
“I guess it is,” Kahlan frowned. “But not unexpected with the closing of the Rift. That was some powerful magic, banishing all banelings back to the Underworld.”
Cara gave her a look as if she was completely missing the point. “If I don’t practice my fighting skills, how will I protect Lord Rahl from future dangers?”
“I’m sure you’ll be fine,” Kahlan laughed.
“But I can’t be sure if I don’t check so...” a daring grin spread on Cara’s face. “ -as my friend, I’ve decided that it’s your duty to spar with me!”

23. Devious
Wordcount: 93
Warnings: None

People feared her, and as well they should; she was a Witch-woman. People said she was devious and could not be trusted, and they were right. A lot of the time, they were. But there were certain futures that she had seen thanks to her magical gifts; futures she didn’t especially desire to come to pass. So when it really mattered, she did what she thought was right. Even if it was just self-perseverance, and not her thinking of all the other people of the Midlands. To Shota, only one person mattered. Shota.

24. Rich
Wordcount: 110
Warnings: None

“When I grow up, I want to be rich!” Zeddicus declared.
“But you'll get to be a Wizard and do all sorts of magic!” Thaddicus argued. “It’s not fair if you should get to be rich as well.”
“But I need to become rich if I’m to buy a castle with big kitchens where cooks will work all day to make all the cakes and cookies and sweets I could dream of while I’m out all day doing magic!”
Thaddicus considered this. “...I want to come live there too.”
“Of course,” Zeddicus promised. “Just as long as you don’t eat my favorites!”
“Everything’s your favorite.” Thaddicus said, rolling his eyes.

25. Nightmare
Wordcount: 110
Warnings: None

The Wizard was the first to fall. A dacra to his back and his life was snuffed out. Then the Mord-Sith died, and with her any hope of reviving fallen friends. The Seeker and his Confessor fought back to back till she fell. Her sliced throat awoke a fury he didn’t know he possessed. One with the sword’s magic, he danced among enemies until only he was left standing. Then he fell to his knees sobbing.
His world shifted as a hand shook his shoulder.
“Richard!” the sweetest voice whispered, magic to his ears. “Richard, please wake up!”
He felt relief wash over him. It had just been a nightmare.

26. Color
Wordcount: 110
Warnings: None

“Will this work?” Richard asked his grandfather.
“Of course!” Zedd huffed. “Am I not a Wizard of the First Order?”
Richard tried to find a respectful way to voice his concerns, but Zedd would have none of it.
“Powerful magic requires a powerful Wizard, my boy! …unless the Seeker has a better idea?” He raised an eyebrow inquisitively.
Richard had to admit that he didn’t. As Zedd chanted, he vowed to never touch a magical artifact again. Not without checking with Kahlan or Zedd first, at least.
“Well?” he asked anxiously.
“Your hair isn’t green anymore,” Zedd replied hesitantly. “It’s more like a bright shade of pink.”
Richard sighed. “Perfect!”

27. Careful
Wordcount: 110
Warnings: Spoiler for S02E03, "Broken"

Cara eyed the Agiel warily. She knew what kind of pain it would bring her. She knew because she had been beaten with Agiels too many times to count. But the rats were bad too. And she was so tired. Careful not to touch it, she moved closer to the magical rod. She could hear the rats, but knew they wouldn’t bite her until she fell asleep. She swallowed hard. Her little hand closed around the handle, then abruptly let go as the pain numbed her all the way to her shoulder. It was just as well, she didn’t want to kill anything. She resigned herself to another sleepless night.

28. Blush
Wordcount: 110
Warnings: Spoiler for S02E22, "Tears"

He was awakened by fingers tracing patterns across his bare torso.
”Hello beautiful,” he smiled, placing his hand atop hers. She blushed as she tried to withdraw, but he grabbed her wrist, pulling her atop himself into his embrace.
”Richard!” she exclaimed with a laugh. ”What are you doing?” She tried to sit up, but his arms around her wouldn’t budge.
”Giving you more reason to blush,” he grinned impishly as he rolled them over, pinning her under him.
”Richard,” she began warningly, but he silenced her with a kiss. Again, he felt the bliss that had overcome him when they had realized her magic wouldn’t keep them apart anymore.

29. Dawn
Wordcount: 106
Warnings: None

Richard enjoyed taking the last watch of the night. The calm of those early morning hours were soothing before a new day of traveling, following the compass. He absentmindedly wondered, not for the first time, what exactly made the compass work. Well, it must obviously be some kind of magic. But how did it know to lead them to where they needed to go? And would they ever reach the Stone of Tears? His thoughts were interrupted as the sun slowly made its appearance, climbing up over the distant ridge. Dawn had snuck up on him once again, and it was time to wake the others.

30. Weapon
Wordcount: 110
Warnings: None

Another fight. Against Sisters of the Dark this time. Generally, a fight against the Sisters is like any other fight, except one has to be acutely aware of the dacras. While appreciative of a good fight, Cara strongly dislikes the dacras. Too much can fail if one of them hits its mark. So she keeps a wary eye out for them, trying hard to not let any get past her guard. Another dacra comes flying, this time aiming for the Wizard. As so many times before, she moves to place herself between dacra and target, using her Mord-Sith magic to stop the weapon and send it back at its owner.
