1st Steampunk Jewelry

I found a set of cogs meant for scrapbooking but thought they would go nicely with my jewelry making supplies.  Strangely enough, in looking through some Etsy stores, I learned that others had had the same idea.  I did a little metal wrapping and sewing to come up with this:

I used 3 cogs for the necklace.  They are silver, tarnished gold, and tarnished copper (from bottom to top).  I did wire wrapping around the first two then connected them to the back one with the chunk of raw citrine.

The two earring cogs are different - one is gold, the other copper with more wiring wrapping to hold on the citrines.  There are two square silver loops connecting to gold circles that connect to the copper earring parts.  I used the two squares to make sure that the cog would stay in the position I wanted.  It also gives it added interest.

The clasp is actually for childrens' clothing, such as overalls.  It's a magnet with metal loops which I fed the ribbons through.

You can see the cream colored ribbon which is actually very thick... I can't remember the name of it but it was popular for belts in the 80's. :)

I used iron-on adhesive to connect the dark ribbon to the cream strip.  Then I sewed the edges of the ribbon on the back.  Please do not look too close at my stitiching.  Thankfully I think it will be blurry if you try to look up close!

The lighter ribbon I had for scrapping and it is only attached on the inside at the ends and behind the cogs.  I had sewn the cogs to the thin ribbon prior to attaching.

I am considering beading on copper seadbeads swirling out from where the cogs are to give it more interest and brighten it up a bit.  I haven't decided.  Then again, I have enough supplies to do a second necklace very close to the same as this one, just with different colors cogs. :)

A close-up of the clasp and then my giraffe neck with said necklace. :)

Lastly, a full shot of me with my new jewelry on and the cute little vest my mother-in-law got me for Christmas. I love this thing.  So, perhaps I have a few bits and pieces to start working into a steampunk outfit when I find a reason to have one...
