I'm sending this book to my cousin in Iraq (planning on sending the first box out this Friday if anyone is interested). Anyway, I bought it over a year ago and figured I should probably read it before it goes. *smirk* I just crossed into the 80's page-wise.
It's... ok. There are two main things I don't like.
1. Harry breaks the fourth wall but not consistantly and it's too abrupt for me, like a sudden shift of POV for one paragraph. The few times he's done it, it just doesn't read comfortably for me.
2. Harry is a wizard (why do I feel like I'm suddenly reviewing JK Rowling?) :) but it's like he's bipolar. One minute he's a confident in what he does then the next minute he's a wimp. The dichotomy feels too extreme for me.
So, I'll probably finish it b/c I'm curious 'who done it' but the likelihood of me buying or reading another Jim Butcher book? Not very high. I mean, he has some good observations. I loved Toot but I'm not impressed. *shrug* Which is fine b/c I know he's a billion other people's cup of tea otherwise he wouldn't be a series on the SciFi channel (he is, right? b/c I don't have cable...)
Anyway, that's my take on it. I'll post a more complete review if I finish it and my mind is changed.
