A World Wide News type hullabaloo has been spreading across the internet about a so called
discovered Bigfoot. Especially how the people who bagged and tagged the beast plan to have a great reveal later on today.
Color me cynical.
However, don't color me using the usual crayons. I am not jaded because I think it's fake. And I am 99.5% sure it's fake. Instead, I think not only is it a fake, I think it's a viral for some movie or television show. It's that last part that gets me. I love a good hoax. The fake alien autopsy? Creepy but a hoot none the less. The fake Nessie photographs? Good job. I almost believed. Almost every other "ghost" photo I've seen? Great photoshop skills.
The difference between them and what if it turns out that Big Foot is a marketing ploy, is that the first one was done by either one or a small group of people to cause a reaction in people. It's almost a magic trick laced with a dramatic play. I was entertained. The second one, Big Foot, on the other hand, is only here for one thing. Profit. The ploy was created by a large corporation that had millions of dollars and a huge marketing team behind it. It's trying to make me watch some show or see some movie so they can turn a profit. And that's really it.
Where's the art? Where's the glee?
I feel swindled and not the good kind.
And if it turns out to be a viral marketing ploy, it will make less likely to believe the next amazing and unusual thing discovered. Not as whether it's real or not but whether it's a living commercial or not.
So, here's me crossing my fingers hoping that it's simply a hoax and not marketing ploy.
