SASK people, this is really important. Our provincial government is reviewing proposals to merge and consolidate five or six pieces of labour legislation into one comprehensive act

It's the current serving governments we have. Federally, we have the Conservative Party of Canada - fundy right wing boneheads with no clue regarding economics (even though our Prime Minister is an economist! Ha!), human rights, or common sense. Currently, a good many Canadians are fighting the omnibus bill C-38 - a bill masquerading as a budget, but which will repeal many of our environmental protection laws. We're also fighting a few other bills including a huge military spending bill on fighter jets (not because we don't need jets, but because the government won't tell us how much they really cost!), and another omnibus bill that would build a bunch of superprisons here - something that the governor of Texas has said is a terrible idea for controlling the crime rate!
And, in Saskatchewan, we have the SaskParty. They're an even more right wing group of nut jobs! And they're the ones trying to change the labour laws under the guise of modernization. The labour movement has had a huge target painted on it since 2007 when these idiots first got into power as a minority government. Thanks to them, we have an Essential Services Act, wherein businesses can name individual employees as being essential to the operations of the company, thereby cancelling that person's right to strike, and violating that person's privacy. It's been ruled unconstitutional in the Supreme Court of Canada, and the United Nations has spoken out against it, saying it degrades basic human rights. Currently, the SaskParty is trying to appeal the ruling.
So, at one point Canada had strong, socially minded laws. Now we're slowly becoming a corporate whore state, and taking whatever Big Business wants to shove down our throats...
