SASK people, this is really important. Our provincial government is reviewing proposals to merge and consolidate five or six pieces of labour legislation into one comprehensive act.
"Sounds great! Fewer complicated laws," you say? Well, here are a few things that are in the works:
*60 hour work week (aka abolition of overtime pay);
*drastic cuts to the scope of the Occupational Health & Safety Act;
*potential scrapping of the Minimum Wage Review Board;
*optional payment of union dues but mandatory union protection (only for unionised workplaces); and
*changes to the Workers' Compensation Board; potential dismantling/merger with OHS.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
The public consultation period ends July 31, 2012. You have just shy of 10 weeks to read, comment, and send in your feedback. Make your voices heard, and protect our rights in the workplace!

It is massive. And it contains more than a kernel of what will become "right to work" legislation. Rather than "modernize and update" our labour laws, this legislation has the potential to toss us back a good seven decades. This is a frightening document.
