A box of squee

Dec 29, 2007 18:57

I just spent far too much money at BPAL and the box came today and I'm not sorry at all, I tell you, not sorry at all, mwahahaha! I got full bottles of Bewitched, Bilquis and Mama-ji, the latter two because they benefit the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and I'm all about the comix love.

I'm not sure how I feel about them yet. The Bilquis I put on first, and while I like it, it's not really the thing. It has a sharp, bitter bottom note that suits the character (from Neil Gaiman's "American Gods") but not me, and I have a perfume already that smells a good deal like it (Todd Oldham). I won't be getting it again, though the longer I have it on the better I like it. It's described as "Honey, myrrh, lily of the valley, rose otto, fig leaf, almond, ambrette, red apple, and warm musk." I think the myrrh is the bitter note. When I first put it on, the myrrh and rose otto were the predominant notes; now it's down to the warm musk with a little honey, almond and apple.

Then I got six Imps (their little sample bottles), but they sent me way more than that! yay for samples!

Fruitcake--which really smells like fruitcake, the best and yummiest kind you can think of. The girls commandeered it and won't give it back.
Dee
Calico Jack, which makes my husband smell just...well. wow. I can't get near him without snogging him. I'm getting, like, a gallon bottle of it.
Vixen, which I gave away. Too much patchouli and the hubby hates patchouli with a passion beyond understanding.
Bess, which I really like
Delirium, ditto
Whip
Blood Countess
Haunted
Thaleia, which is spectacular and may be my favorite--a sweet, happy floral
Severin
De Sade
Jolly Roger
Miskitonic University, which smells exactly like someone drinking Irish Coffee in a library!

I'm waiting for the one that Neil Gaiman says makes you smell like a sexy vampire apple (Snow Glass Apple) to be released. How are you supposed to resist a perfume that does that, I ask you! Anyway, I'm now a confirmed BPAL addict and as I wear these I'll tell you more about 'em.

And really, how sad is it that if Neil Gaiman endorses a scent I immediately run and buy it? sigh. Me with the Scotsmen, I don't know what it is. Even when I don't know they're Scots, they get me, those Scotsmen. No, the hubby isn't Scots, though he does wear the kilt...

gaiman, squee, perfume, bpal, do not want!
