While I expect very few of you to actually read or respond (for those who do, I DO expect you to...), I am posting again ( Read more... )

So, this is my situation. I have a poem in mind but I cannot find my copy of it anywhere. I know it is in some folder in my room and I know I saw it a couple of weeks ago when I was cleaning. God only knows where I moved it. I believe this could be an argument against cleaning your room. You can never find anything afterward. Instead, what I will do is describe the poem to you and if and when I find it, I will post it for you to read. It is all I can do at this point and I really like this one and don't want to share another one at this point.

So, the poem is about kids and the struggles that young people have to deal with on a daily basis. It basically says that kids will begin to turn to other people and other things for acceptance because their parents become so absorbed in their own lives and jobs that they do not have time for them. This, in turn, propels the kids to look for their "family" on the streets in gangs or turning to drugs and alcohol because the true support system is not there for them. They do these things in order to try to prove themselves.

I chose this poem because I feel it has a strong message and tells of the importance of the family being a central role in an individuals life. Too many times, the family is being replaced by television, sports, jobs, etc.. This hits close to home with me, as my family is not as strong as it could or should and also because these are the types of students I will face on a daily basis soon. Knowing these things can help me find ways of reaching out to them and being more of an example to them then I ever imagined.

This is getting long for not having a poem attached to it and just simply talking about this poem has re-ignited my desire to share it on here so I am going to go look for it again in my room. Keep your fingers crossed that I can find it....

I too think this is a such a problem today. If parents only knew what they were doing. Only a true Christian home can battle against Satan's tactics to capture the children of this age. My own brother has tried to find solace and happiness in other things...a direct result of our broken home if you ask me. I'm so passionate about this. Thanks for posting. It is some encouragement to me.
