First class of the semester: cancelled! Prof. Kellum has the flu. So, in the absence of anything else to do (that's a lie I totally could be buying textbooks or cleaning my room or something but SHH), update lj!
the Les Mis craze going on in the world has transformed itself into a general musicals craze in my head, as it does. Youtube is actually the worst invention ever, because this always happens, and then I waste time watching people who aren't actually famous sing things from musicals that don't even exist yet, etc.
Legitimately, this is why I stay away from the broadway world: it never ends. never.

Hadley Fraser was Grantaire in the 25th anniversary concerts of Les Mis (also the moustachioed army commander in the movie), and literally all my problems stem from this. HE'S SO LOVELY YOU GUYS. His voice makes me want to curl up and die.

He was also Gareth in Army of Ghosts, the pre-finale episode of Doctor Who S2- he's the dude in the Torchwood office with "Martha Jones' cousin", and he's the first to get the cyberman treatment.

Matilda, the Musical has music/lyrics from Tim Minchin so, you know, of course I need it in my life. Also, Matilda's one of those characters I over-identified with as a quiet bookish girl myself. But also it's amazing, and the Matildas (they have a rotating cast of three or four girls who play Matilda) won the 2012 Olivier Award for best actress in a musical. Like, actually. That amazing.

I'm obsessed with this song and the voice of that kid who starts it. It's like, Tiny Spring Awakening meets School of Rock. So gooooood.

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson: an emo-rock musical about the seventh president. I've listened to this song twenty times in a row dear lord. Ben Walker, who went on to play the illustrious Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, gave a lap dance to some poor unsuspecting soul EVERY NIGHT (this is from Jimmy Fallon, but in the actual musical he sings "fill you up with populi-jism" instead of just "populism"- IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE). I'm a little bit astounded that this ever made it to Broadway, but only because it's so amazing.

this is maybe my 2nd favorite song, JQ Adams is amazing. (also, the whole "if my dad was pres then I should get to be president too!" line in general is amazing bc essentially that's what Bush the second did, only he also was canny enough to set himself up as the Jackson-esque populist, down home Southern candidate instead of the elitist Phillips-and-Yale-educated White House brat.)
