This past week in my art history class we were looking at the ruins of a neolithic city called Catal Hüyük (in modern-day Turkey) and apparently academics think families left their dead out on the plains for birds of prey to scavenge, and took the bones back once they were completely stripped of flesh and buried them under their houses. Which was probably a religious ritual but also, considering how cramped the city was (there were literally no streets, people got around via rooftop) is a surprisingly sanitary way of dealing with remains. so a+ for those people.
Then the next class we looked at artifacts from a town called Ur in Mesopotamia and there's a giant royal cemetery site where when the ruler died and was buried, a bunch of his courtiers and subjects and slaves all went and had a big feast in his tomb and then drank poison en masse so that they could follow him into the afterlife. SO COOL. You can tell that I'm enjoying this class so far.
I'm thinking about applying for a radio show on WOZQ again- but instead of doing a 'geek music' show, it'd be focused on britpop- mostly because... that's what i've been listening to recently? It'd be only artists from britain (obvs), and only artists that haven't had a lot of airplay/success in the states (so like- no Adele, no Florence + the Machine or Mumford & Sons, no Taio Cruz, and sadly no One Direction).
Anyways, in relation to this I've been spending the weekend "researching" which mostly means "listening to a lot of Rizzle Kicks".
