November Reading Update!

Read a Book Written By a Comedian ~ Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari, 11-7-16: I was actually really impressed with this book! I listened to it on Audible because it's easier to listen to a book while I'm nursing and driving around, etc. This book had moments of hilarity but it was all based on real sociological research about people's dating habits! What impressed me was the amount of legitimate research Aziz Ansari got done (with help from the co-author). Let me just say this..... I am SO GLAD I am not single in this digital age! (Also, at the same time I was reading this book, I was also watching episodes of "Master of None" on Netflix. That's a good show, starring... Aziz Ansari!)

Read a Book by a Pulitzer Prize Winning Author ~ The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri, 11-22-16: I fudged this category - it was supposed to be a Pulitzer Prize winning BOOK but I'd already read her book Interpreter of Maladies, which won the Pulitzer, so I wanted to read her second novel. It did not disappoint! She is an excellent writer! This was the story of a boy who grew up with a name he didn't like nor understand. It followed him from birth to adulthood and in the end, he accepted his identity as an American born of Indian decent and accepted his name, even though it was not a traditional Indian name. It was a great read!

Read a Book from the Library ~ Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl, 11-25-16: Ugh. This one was hard to get through for both me and Audrey. Plus, it was totally racist in the beginning! The way Dahl wrote out how the Chinese spoke was offensive. I didn't read it that way to my daughter.... Audrey also read me a few chapters from this book. She is really doing great with her reading! And she understands and remembers what I read to her during our read alouds. (So proud!) But really this was a flop as a sequel to the Chocolate Factory...

Read a Book by an Author You Love ~ Lost Women of the Bible: The Women We Thought We Knew by Carolyn Custis James, 11-30-16: I LOVED this book! It was just what my heart needed to read after all the craziness that went down this month with politics. I was inspired and encouraged by the stories of the women in this book - Eve, Sarah, Hagar, Tamar, Hannah, Esther, Mary of Nazareth, Mary Magdalene, and the women of Philipi. I love the story of God's love for women that is woven throughout all these women's stories.

Now on to the last month of the year! I don't think I'll be reaching my goal this year but at least I have read some really good books :)
