Audrey's current ability to recall information left Jeff & I with our jaws on the floor this evening.
While cleaning out her diaper bag from the day, I came across her activity page from Sunday School in the nursery today. I showed Jeff what Audrey did during Sunday School. Audrey saw her activity page and then walked by and said, "Esau." Her activity page was all about Jacob and Esau... Jeff & I wanted to make sure we heard her right. I stopped her, showed her the activity page, pointed to Esau, and asked, "who is this?" to which she replied "Esau!" (*shock!*)
I pointed to Jacob and asked the same. Audrey said "Cob-bob" which is close enough to Jacob, don't you think? Jeff & I were completely floored. I was with her in the nursery today with her two other little friends, one will be 3 and the other is a month younger than Audrey. You would not have thought anything was being retained while watching these kids listen to the lesson. Sure they "listen" in that they sit quietly and look at the teacher, but I never would have thought a 19.5 month year old would be able to recall Esau and Jacob!
There have been other things she's recalled this past week too:
- We were supposed to have a playdate on Thursday with Sara and her son, Miles. The night before, I told Audrey we were going to go to the train park with Miles and Sara the next day. She excitedly repeated "Miles! Sara! Train!" over and over again. I got a text later that night that Miles had a fever and would have to go to the doctor instead of come to our playdate. So, I just didn't mention it to Audrey and took her to daycare as if it was a normal day. I decided to pick her up early and take her to the train park anyway. When I came in to her daycare and asked, "Audrey, do you want to go to the park with Mommy?" she exclaimed, "Miles!" I then had to explain that Miles was sick so it was just me and Audrey. After a few repeats, she got it and we had a lovely time at Higginbotham Park (aka the train park) in Claremont.
- We were going to go for a walk but Audrey wanted to go in her stroller. I keep the umbrella stroller in my car so we walked over to get it. As I got it out of the trunk, she said, "Jack!" While we were in Tucson, I used the umbrella stroller all the time. I told her Jack was in Arizona and asked if she missed her cousin, to which she replied, "yeah."
- While looking at a book about colors, I showed her some pink flamingos. She said, "Flamingos. Cassie!" Her Aunt Cassie loves flamingos and showed them to Audrey while we were at the zoo in Tucson together. She must have remembered.
It's exciting (and a little scary) how much she is remembering and then recalling!
