Audrey... the helper!

Feb 18, 2013 14:08

Audrey is now 18 months old (oh... my... goodness...). Where has the time gone? It's amazing to me how different she is now compared to when she was newborn or even at the infant stage. One thing that has been consistent though is her smile! Her happiness, joyfulness, and overall contentness have been contagious! Or maybe she gets it from us? Jeff and I prayed and prayed for "a baby" but what we got was a blessing beyond words. Ok, I'm just going to say it...

AUDREY IS THE BEST BABY EVER!!!!

There. I said it. :)

Now, that being said, one of the great new things Audrey has started doing lately is "helping." I shouldn't put it in quotes because she really does help! Here's what she can do:

- Put her socks, blankets, and pants away after Mommy has folded them. She knows where she goes and smiles really big when she puts them in the right spot!

- Puts the groceries in the refridgerator! She will take the groceries out of the bag one at a time and after Mommy points to the correct location in the fridge, Audrey delicately places them in the right spot.

- Pushed the "customer in training" shopping cart at Trader Joe's. This was such a big deal for us when she first did this! She had the biggest grin on her face the entire time!

- Wipe down the table when she is done eating. I actually caught her doing this at daycare after snack time one day and have since implemented the same "chore" in our home!

- Put her toys or books away after Mommy helps her find the right spot for them. She especially likes putting her bath toys away as well as keeping her cup of crayons organized after coloring.

- Pulls her stool out to stand up at the sink in order to get her teeth brushed. This is part of her bedtime routine. She knows that after Mommy brushes her hair, she has to go find the stool (tucked to the side of the sink out of the walking path in the bathroom) and pull it to the right spot.

- She really wants to help with sweeping! She recently found her way into our pantry and found our big broom. She then dragged it out saying "help" over and over again. She "swept" the living room, dining room, and kitchen. My mom has since gotten Audrey her own little broom which Audrey is currently learning how to master.

Here's a blog with some other ideas for chores for 18 month olds. It's not that I want to put Audrey to work... SHE wants to be put to work! She gets so happy and excited when I thank her for being a big helper!

What a great age :)
