The best thing about entering the 2nd trimester was telling EVERYONE I was pregnant.
I first spilled the beans to my closest friends from college when I was just shy of 12 weeks. The reason I told them was because we were vacationing together in Vegas (a destination I would not recommend visiting while pregnant - oh the smells! *Vomit*) Anyway, I'm a pretty bad liar and wanted to just be out about why I wasn't drinking during the weekend. Well, my friend Yvonne beat me to it! She announced she is pregnant and due August 13th! I almost fell out of my chair with excitement! That paved the way for me to announce we're also pregnant and due August 9th! I am so happy to have another friend from college (along with Sara, due in May) also pregnant for the first time!
Here's Sara, Yvonne, and me in Vegas toting our water bottles - no drinking for us!
Next, Jeff and I announced it to our church congregation. My friend Lynnette was leading the service and got teary eyed when we shared. She had known that we had a miscarriage and she too had had a hard time getting pregnant the first time. I figured she was just happy for us. Well, it turns out that she is also pregnant and due in September! She told me she had been praying for us for a long time and had hoped we'd get pregnant before she did. I'm so thankful to have another friend who is both local and experienced in being a mom as another resource!
After that, I made my announcement to all my coworkers during a staff meeting. Another coworker had already shared a few weeks earlier that she is pregnant and due August 28th. Anyway, a lot of my coworkers alluded to the fact that they had their suspicions earlier about me being pregnant. Again, I'm glad it's now out in the open so I don't have to hide my tummy or how tired I am! Well, right after making my announcement another coworker announced that she is also pregnant and due August 5th! I can't believe it! Now there are actually three of us at my work all pregnant and all due in August!!! Both the women who are pregnant are on their third child. I'm so thankful to have work friends I can talk to now about being pregnant, maternity leave, etc.!
Also during this week, I let the rest of my extended family know. I sent everyone on both sides a photo card of our baby's ultrasound and a little Valentine's Day greeting. Within a few days, I started getting text messages, emails, and phone calls about the family's excitement. This baby is the first of its generation for both sides!
Lastly, I decided to announce the pregnancy on Facebook. I wasn't going to originally but I realized I have a lot of friends on there that wouldn't find out otherwise (unless I called them but that would take too much time...). So I posted a very literal picture of a bun in an oven. A few people got it right away and then after a few days, more people got it. My wall was flooded with congratulatory posts.
It's a BUN in the OVEN
In other news, I am feeling better day by day. Nausea is starting to dwindle away and my energy is starting to pick up. I still wish I had a little more energy during the work day... I've also been battling heartburn a lot more lately. But all in all, this pregnancy is finally starting to feel real! I look forward to what the future will bring!
