My regular eye doctor's been telling me for a while that I have a cloudy cornea. Now I know why. I saw a cornea specialist today, and she said it's Fuch's Dystrophy. She also explained better than I could even attempt to, but it seems to involve either not enough or too quickly lost cells in the cornea that normally drain off water. Because they're not functioning at top capacity, water builds up, swelling the cornea and causing visual impairment.
According to a web site I just consulted, Fuch's affects 1% of the population--oh lucky me--and is genetic. The web site also seemed to think I should head straight for a corneal transplant, but this is the opposite of what the doctors are saying.
Oh joy.
