Keira bragging

Parent conference today:

Keira will be getting all E's on her report card.

She is currently reading at a level considered average for the 3rd quarter of 2nd grade. The teacher expects her to get to the middle of 3rd grade. (However, at that level, she'll be expected to answer a question about author's purpose...that's rather abstract for her at this point).

Math was described as "not as far ahead as in reading." I didn't think she was ahead at all.

I asked about any signs in class about the performance anxiety we've seen at home, and he said no, not at all.

I also asked if there were any social issues--she's occasionally mentioned kids being mean, and I didn't know if she might not talk about more major issues. And the teacher's response was probably the best thing we heard the whole conference: there *is* a girl who was held back a year who can be a quiet sort of bully. At recess, Keira plays games with other kids in groups, but sometimes this older girl forms a "posse" (Mr. Tiller's words) and kind of controls the play...and Keira just waves them off and goes to play by herself or talk to the teacher--again, Mr. Tiller characterized her as "I'm not having any of *that*!" Yay! Keira avoids peer pressure!
