I had to tell off another missionary. I used to wonder why people didn't like them. They seemed like nice people! They are devout, supposedly, and are just doing what they think is right.

But now I am on the other side of the theist line and I see the problem. They get downright insulting once they find out you're an atheist. Or anything else, for that matter. One fellow I had to scorch right in front of his supervisor because I got fed up with his coming to my door and throwing me insults. I forbade him to talk to Jodi or the kids.

The other one I told I wasn't interested, and he came back later to ask if he could teach my daughters!

I am teaching my kids to be skeptical. I have already taught them to look at every aspect of something and to make sure they know all the angles and don't give in to feelings that don't make sense. I used mormonism to illustrate that sometimes what people believe just does NOT make sense. The rest just falls in line. If the basic facts don't add up, then what these people spout is just lies and self-deception. As Penn Gillette says, all you have to do to become an atheist to to read the bible all the way through.

It's like this guy wasn't raised in western culture. He had no thoughts as to what I might think of his bullshit or the fact that I hold his brand of bullshit in the lowest esteem. They just accept their own way as truth and find it impossible to believe that someone wouldn't want to hear it.

So I scorched his ass, too.
