The play is "A Tuna Christmas", yes, obviously a Christmas theme. Zona was wanting a holiday piece, and this is as close as we can get. We perform the weekend before Thanksgiving. Ordinarily, I'm an advocate of separating the holidays, I don't celebrate Hallowthanksmas. But, here I am, being something of a hypocrite this year.
It's very funny, actually a sequel to "Greater Tuna" which we produced about 10 years ago on the same stage. 22 characters portrayed by 14 actors. The original writers whose names I never remember perform this as a two man show which is hysterical. If we had that kind of talent, I'd be in heaven. As it is, I had to take a role at the last minute. One of our gals, who is a great actress by the way, has been sick for two weeks and is simply not going to be able to do it. I'd been reading her part anyway, so I was the closest to being memorized. Community Theatre. I think there is a t-shirt that says we are used to a certain amount of disappointment.
Regardless, I as director, do believe this is going to be good. We tape our final dress rehearsal onto DVD, someday I'm going to make you people watch some of these shows. If anyone wants to make a trip, the show is Friday and Saturday nights at The Meeting Place.
