For Your Consideration, a play

I have a quandary. One of our young directors in the community theatre wants to do "The Fantasticks". Many people have at least heard of it. It's the longest running play in America, and it is a musical. I can say I have finally read the script, and seen the movie produced in 1995. The set is very minimal, same for props. These are good things for community theatre.
What's my problem? I find the play boring! For a musical, I recognize only one song, and none of the rest are even catchy. The plot, well musicals can be like porn; you probably didn't show up for the storyline.
So. If the naked people are ugly, and the plot is lame, do you you stay and watch it just because it's "Debbie Does Dallas"? Somebody is bound to say, "but bad porn is still porn", okay, well, now I've lost the analogy.
Maybe it's just me, maybe everyone else sees the merit in "The Fantasticks" and I'm being obtuse. Let me know, I'm willing to be wrong.
