Fireworks and my Dog

Jul 08, 2012 14:42

Since Kate and Leslie and Cherokee left last Sunday, I thought SaraJane was simply missing her live squeaky toy when she was whimpery. Turns out it was more about the fireworks. To be succinct, the firecrackers that apparently every neighbor on the block has bought in bulk. To be fair, I'm sure it's only a few of the neighbors, but boy did they ever buy out the stand. Tuesday I come home to a face-bloody dog who I think has cornered a honey badger under the house or something. After washing off as much as she'd let me and pouring a bit of hydrogen peroxide around the house and a squirt or two on the dog, I still don't know what happened. I check around the inside and outside perimeter and still can't find the scene of the attack or anything. After closely watching her behavior for a few more days, I discover she's been jumping in and out of the bathtub, and under the bathroom sink trying to find a safe haven.
I'd drag her crate out, but she's never really acted like crate is safety, only a requirement. So I've taken to leaving my closet door open in hopes for a safe haven with less sharp edges. My best guess is she's hitting her face on the faucet, or cabinet doors. Coming home from church today I find neither the tub disturbed, nor the cabinets opened and it doesn't look like she was in the closet either.
Being half deaf, I can't always hear all the fireworks she hears, but I think the sounds have reduced substantially.
This was her face Thursday. She has a gouge on her right cheek, and a spot right below her left eye and some minor scratches that may not be showing up in this pic. They are reducing daily as she didn't add anymore since then.
