I think I should post more stuff like this, if only for my own musings later on. I love looking back on stuff like this and just remembering random moments.
Seriously though, this was cool. I felt like I was in the 1950's or something.
So I'm driving through this town called Independence and I'm on a home visit. On the way in, I notice this little ice cream shop I've never noticed before. My stomach growls at me, but I'm already running 3 minutes late.
The home visit didn't take a lot of time. The home looked great, the infant is thriving, and the mother is very loving. So on my way back, I see that ice cream shop again...
...and I stop, of course!!
I'm really making it a priority right now to eat healthy, so I'm just going to order a very small scoop in a very small cone, and throw the cone away.
But still, I can't help but smile as I walk in. I'm dressed pretty professionally, but my dress does have something a bit girlish about it. Ok so cross out the part that says I'm smiling as I walk in. Who am I kidding, I have a huge goofy grin that I'm trying to tame a bit as I walk in.
The man behind the counter looks to be slightly older than me, probably late 20's. Very attractive, dressed well. (Made me wonder what he's doing working at a little ice cream shop...I guess that's why it felt 1950's?) He notices the HUGE goofy grin on my face and says "You're here for ice cream, aren't you?" With just a hint of sheepishness in my voice I say, "Well, yeah."
I ordered an espresso chip cone, just a tiny one, and he says "Well, I suppose you just want a tiny scoop then?" "Yes," I answer.
He asks me if I'm just passing through, and I say "Yeah, I'm a child welfare caseworker, and I was visiting one of my families, and noticed this shop...I've never noticed it before!" He tells me that they just started selling/advertising ice cream there a couple months before.
We exchange smiles and "Have a good day!" 's as I walk out, and back to the state car, where I drive away, ice cream cone in hand.
God, please let me keep my child-like and spontaneous spirit! It's one of my favorite qualities about myself.
