I have decided to follow the herd and make an intro post.
1. My name is Megan. I respond to and am fine with various nicknames online, but offline, I don’t respond to Meg, Meggie, Peg, Mag or any other nickname for “Megan” that you can think of unless you are a relative, a small child, or someone who knew me when I was in diapers. If I do respond, it’s from grudging politeness. I also respond to “meganbmoore,” as I was hailed several times last year.
2. I am an omnivore. If you are going to be grossed out by my eating meat in front of you please tell me! I would much rather you do that than be grossed out if we’re eating together. Or skip on hanging out if food is involved.
3. I’ve been dealing with a respiratory problem the last few months. It’s mostly under control and steadily improving, but I’m currently using 2 inhalers. One that I have to use twice a day (not on a strict schedule) and one that I only use if I need it. My main symptoms are a hacking cough at times, and my chest getting too tight. I haven’t been having problems with short breaths much lately. It gets worse, though, when the weather changes, so I’m not sure how going from Texas air to Wisconsin air will affect it. But, basically, if you see me pull out my inhaler, I’m not having an asthma attack. I just feel like there’s someone sitting on my chest.
4. Also on the subject of health, I’m anemic and have ADD. The anemia is under control and I’m on meds for the ADD, but between the two, I’m prone to headaches, lightheadedness, and queasiness. As a result, I typically have some combination of pretzels, jerky (see #2 if beef or turkey jerky icks you out), chocolate and granola/nut/dried berry mixes (either nicely portable 100 calorie packs or mixes I’ve assembled through HEB’s bulk foods aisle) either on me or easily attainable. I also usually have at least 2 of Bath and Body Work’s teeny hand sanitizers on me.
5. Thanks to the ADD, I basically have 2 modes: near total silence and nonstop chatter. Often overly energetic chatter that bounces all over the place in terms of topic. You can get me to focus if you bring it to my attention though. I also staring intently at something when I’m thinking. This tends to freak people out. Tell me if I do it. I don’t get offended at having these things pointed out to me, as I know I do them, I just don’t always know as I’m doing them. I also get very edgy and jumped at unexpected touching, no matter how innocent it is.
6. I will most likely be carrying around a black tote that says “Girl’s Rule” and features Batgirl, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl at the convention.
7. Fannishly, I am likely up for all things wuxia, Arthuriana, YA fantasy (gothic and otherwise), romance and historical mystery novels, Bollywood, manga, anime, manhwa, UK period dramas, campy 90s adventure TV, 80s detective shows, Stargates (except Universe) Farscape and Babylon 5.
I am current with aired episode of White Collar, Covert Affairs, Haven, Game of Thrones, Lost Girl, and Camelot. I intend to also be current on The Vampire Diaries, The Borgias, Nikita and Mad Men.
I follow Bones, Castle, Chuck, Gossip Girl, Leverage, Warehouse 13, Eureka and Psych on DVD (but am not necessarily current on DVDs for all of them) but will not disown you if you spoil me. I may cover my ears and go “la la la la la” though.
I have never seen an episode of Doctor Who (I do intend to change this), have seen little Star Trek, and only watched a few episodes of Battlestar Galactica, but thanks to fandom osmosis, I can follow conversations about all of the above with no problem.
Mention Dollhouse, Supernatural, Damon Salvatore, Harry Potter*, the last 2 seasons of Buffy, and possibly Spinoff of Buffy post-”Cordy becomes part demon” at your own risk. (Actually, I’ll probably just refrain from contributing unless asked.)
*Though not for the same reasons as the rest of the list! I just have a grumpy, highly opinionated dislike of it that is not filtered through nostalgia or finding the world building or plot interesting at all.
