poor little mices

Jeff and I planned on covering the pool up for the winter. I drained the water out and did all the other winterizing stuff during the week so all we needed to do was put the cover on. We go outside and Jeff starts pulling the cover out of the shed. He jumps back and says he saw a toad...he got very excited because we have this toad that seems to hang around our house. Anyway, we move the cover across a bit of the yard looking for the toad. Instead, I found 3 baby mice. Like brand new baby mice...their eyes weren't even open. And they were alive. Jeff accidentally disturbed the nest, which was inside the folded up cover, and flung them out when he took it out of the shed. Of course, I start freaking out, thinking there are mice babies all over the yard and how I am I supposed to care for a ton of baby mice? I start to cry because I felt so bad for them...they were so helpless. We searched all over the yard but only found the 3. We gathered the remnants of the nest and put them all back in the shed. I'm not a huge fan of mice but these little ones were so tiny and cute. I am hoping the mama mouse comes back and takes care of them. I told Jeff he had to go out there tomorrow and check on them...if they are gone, fine, it means the mama came back (at least that's what I want to believe) but if they are dead, I asked not be told. Please, Mama Mouse, come back for your babies. We're so sorry.

This is worse than the birds nest incident from this spring...

house, jeff
